this is the movie the pioneered that 'camera work', and it was imitated in dozens if not hundreds of produced content since.

There's a book called "Simulacra and Simulation" the cast had to read to fully understand what the movie was going to be about. It is also shown hallowed out when Neo retrieves the disc from it. The intro rooftop scene set was reused from the movie "The Crow."

I believe the movie was actually Dark City where the sets were reused.

This movie is actually more of a trip today than it was when it came out. I watched it in a theater in 1999, and the whole concept of The Matrix seemed a bit far-fetched, Internet was just becoming a thing, EverQuest had just been released the same year, A.I. technology was still pretty far off the mark (I think the best chess players could still beat the computers?), and so on. Now, it's completely different story, computer graphics and CGI are starting to blend with reality, all your devices are connected, not only can A.I. easily beat the best chess players, but it can learn itself to play chess better than all the chess engines out there, and you have these crazy people at Boston Dynamics creating increasingly scary robots..

The question people have about whether they'd be the guy to take the blue pill or the red pill... neither is actually the correct answer. When a bunch of strange, leather-clad hipsters that you just met take you to a dark, abandoned building, and offer you a weird selection of mystery drugs... you should say "No, thanks", and promptly leave.

I read somewhere that the original use the machines were going to have for humans was as part of a neural network, AI using human brains for computing power. But apparently back then they thought audiences wouldn't understand a neural network concept so it was changed to batteries. I think that was a smart move in 1999. Some people complain that it would cost more in energy keeping a person alive than you would get out of them in electricity but for the purposes of a movie I think most people don't care about that.
@paratus04
@paratus04 3 жыл бұрын
When we saw it in 99 we thought the battery thing was stupid then. Human brains as a network made more sense.

Give yourself a treat and make sure you watch *_The Animatrix_* BEFORE jumping on to *_The Matrix: Reloaded_* and *_The Matrix: Revolutions._* *_The Animatrix_* is an official part of *_The Matrix_* franchise and is best watched in-between the 1st and 2nd movie of the Trilogy, and it helps bridge the gap between the two much better. If you could, I would love to see your reaction to *_The Animatrix._*

Keanu Reeves, Carrie Ann Moss, Lawrence Fishburne, and Hugo Weaving were trained in kung fu by Hong Kong stunt coordinators for four months because the Watchowski sisters wanted the audience to be able to see the actors doing the fight scenes themselves. This was practically unheard of before The Matrix, as most Hollywood film studios opted to merely swap out the actors with stunt performers during fight scenes and used camera tricks like quick cuts and extremely wide shots to hide it (or they hired actors who already knew martial arts, though with mixed-to-poor results since not all martial artists just happen to also be good at acting). But after The Matrix's success, more and more studios began having their actors extensively train in fight choreography during preproduction so they could perform their own fight scenes.

11:34 That is true, the Matrix producer were themselves inspired by the Anime Ghost in the Shell from 1995. Just like many people being blown away by watching Matrix, the Wachowski Brothers back then were blown away by Ghost in the Shell and developed a similar concept, creating their own movie. They even copied the intro from the Anime into Matrix with the whole green coding style, it is amazhing how many similarities there are, yet Matrix keeps its own plot and concept

12>04 INSPIRED MOVIES... very intelligently phrased, I have to give you this. The point is those materials are based on some Expressionistic Comics done since the Sixties and Seventies mostly Belgium and French in Origin. Even so the MATRIX is stll tame to what else those European and Europan influenced authors have done like THE VALERIAN movie from Luc Besson like LUCY, THE FIFTH ELEMENT, LEON THE KILLER, LA FEMME NIKITA, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF THOUSAND PLANETS and so on or even the movie XIII
