I remember the tagline "what is the matrix?" was so popular. Classmates like me were asking our mates who had seen the movie. We leaned in and asked them, "so..what IS the matrix?" And they turned all Morpheus-like and shook their head telling us, "you must see for yourself." It was so goddamn mysterious! The Matrix was the movie vehicle for changing from VHS to DVD. I had a PlayStation 2 so it played DVDs. My friend and I rented the Matrix from Blockbuster and had a sleepover just to watch the matrix and finally understand. And then there was a storm and my house lost electricity 😞 we just lied on my bed, moping, staring at the ceiling doing nothing because we were so disappointed because we had to finally understand. At 11pm after 3 hrs of moping the electricity came back on. Normally we'd be too sleepy to start a movie then but, for the Matrix? Nope! We started that shit right away. Forget sleep. We just watched with our mouths open, minds blown the whole time. And yes, we understood our classmates' shitty mysterious answers now. We had to see it for ourselves. Free your mind 💽

Yeah. English has very few consistent rules governing the relationship between how words are spelt and how they're pronounced. Mostly 'cus it's a mongrel language that came from Latin, Greek, Germanic languages, Scandinavian languages, and the languages that were already there before the roman invasion, which are related to several very old european languages. It's a total mess. Deffo one of the least consistent, least logical languages in terms of the written word. BUT, since people from all over the world speak it, people who speak it as an only language, have heard all the different pronunciations from people around the world, so it's all good. English speakers are probably better at interpreting their language when it's imperfectly spoken, than are speakers of any other language, simply because they hear their language spoken as a second or third language, more than anyone else does. Hell...many native speakers pronounce "matrix" that way, just because they've never heard the word, and that's a slightly more obvious way to pronounce it.

@@FrancoisDressler Especially since the physics of using Humans as a power source doesn't work. We make terrible batteries, and you have to feed us, which takes more energy then you get back. I think the original idea was also that we were supposed to be able to process information in a way that they couldn't. It fits much better with that idea that the matrix was like this mental itch you couldn't scratch. Because some part of your mind was literally being controlled to do something else.

@@arik_dev we make a bad power source because we need to be fed? What? You mean like nearly everything we eat to get energy? And remember, Morpheus did say that the dead were fed intravenously back to the living.... so that and add some basic synthetic vitamins and nutrients makes us pretty self sustaining I would think. Also, a lot of people had a hard enough time wrapping their brain around the whole human battery concept... the studio made the right call imo if they wanted it to be a massive blockbuster understandable by the masses.... only geeks and nerds at that time would have been able to grasp everyone being hooked up and used as some sort of giant supercomputer. I would have enjoyed it tho 😁👍👊
@arik_dev3 жыл бұрын
@@bigdaddy741098 That is not how Conservation of Energy works. Energy isn't created only converted between forms. You need energy to grow the food, and the energy gets embedded in the food as potential chemical energy, except the process is not 100% efficient. But even if you could somehow make it 100% efficient, you're only putting the same amount of energy into the humans that you get out. Less actually, FAR less, because humans do not make efficient batteries. But that begs the question, where did you get the energy to grow the food in the first place? And, if you have a source of energy to grow food with, why bother with humans in the first place, you already have energy in that case! And the whole premise is that they DON'T have access to easy energy. And as for the corpse thing, you probably eat hundreds if not thousands of times your weight in food in your lifetime. Most of that energy does not get stored in the body. It gets spent moving, thinking, making your heart pump, making your stomach digest, keeping your body temperature level. When you die, most of that energy you consumed is long gone, there's only a tiny bit of left in your body. There's not enough in your corpse to feed the next person/ You don't even need to know anything about biology, because it all comes back to conservation of energy. And I already know because I've been a citizen off the internet for years that you're going to come back and say "that's not how physics works", and "you don't know what you're talking about", bla bla bla. But just save yourself the trouble and don't bother. I don't care. if you don't want to understand, I can't make you.

Also a whole layer on which this is a tale about the power of embracing your true self against arbitrary societal norms for LBGTQ+ people, made a bit more obvious by the fact that both Wachowskis transitioned not long after this was released. There have been whole university-level philosophy courses built around this movie. In a lot of ways, it's the spiritual ancestor of "The Good Place", in that it managed to give people info on existential philosophies while still entertaining them.

What did you think of the Oracle? Did you catch the Cookie she downloaded to Neo? Technically, anyone could have been The One, Neo was just waiting for confirmation from someone else. And, theoretically, non-canonical, after Neo started with superpowers the Matrix could have reworked itself to become the MCU, in order to have it keep sense... Here's something may be for you to think about. From a spiritual perspective you are in the matrix. Buddhist and hiddhus practice a way to escape the material world and our ego's,to find enlightenment or the true nature of reality. This film is a metaphor for that idea. There are many religious references also like the holy Trinity , Morpheus (God associated with sleep) and Neo means new or is an anagram of one. Depends how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go 😁

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb (H7358) I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Strong's H7358 rechem = womb, matrix

Well done, ladies. You followed the film's theme really well. The editing, aside for all the other marvels, was superb, equal to anything thrown at us nowadays. At truly seminal movie. Hats off to the Warchowski brothers (now sisters).

The sound and audio of the movie keeps crashing. One minute I can hear it fine, and the next the movie is silent.

This movie came out when I was 18 and happened to have short black hair. You better believe I bought ALL the black leather I could afford.

"How can he do that," you ask. Do you believe? You're in a simulation and in a simulation anything is possible. Great show.

I won't tell the story again, but it involves my bass player, several hits of acid and the Matrix in the theater.

Sounds like a blast 👍 I won't say mine either, but it involves acid, Fraggle Rock and an ashtray.

@@paulcurran4786 I've been recognized as repeating the same story before so I refrained this time. So a few of us went to see this in high school and my bassist failed to tell the rest of us that he had taken a few hits of acid. Well, he never made it through the intro with the numbers before he ran out and spent the rest of the movie in the car doing God knows what.

@@krisfrederick5001 Well i've never had a bad trip on acid myself, but i've known a few others who have. I was partying with acid and found myself staring at an ashtray, ended up seeing the guys that lived under Fraggle Rock, the guys with the little wheel borrows and hard hats, they where moving the cigarette butts and ash about the ashtray for about 10 minutes straight.

Trinity has to say "everything the oracle told me has come true, everything but this" because it must happen! Neo must be the one! Because she loves him.

I’ve noticed in quite a few movie reactions that you girls keep listening to the movie with one earbud. You’re missing a lot of the sound mix in the movie when you do that. I definitely love watching your reactions though!

Every human in the matrix is a software character. Agents are programs to overwrite the character, so they can become everyone that is online on the system called the matrix. And since their mind is not connected to a human brain you are only killing the human, not the agent by shooting them or something like that. You would have to erase the code.

@The Homies you now have to watch The Matrix Reloaded, and then The Matrix Revolutions. They are the two sequels.. Then you can learn more about the Matrix and Zion..
