It didn't bother me that much though, because this character in the movie is 100% CGI all the time. Here they go back and forth between real Keanu and CGI Keanu and it looks 5x worse.

Two of the most underrated sequels ever. Revolutions in particular, is fantastic. I honestly don't think the CGI is all that bad. Somewhat dated looking? Yes. But it's not godawful.

I'm sorry but Revolutions is the most heavy-handed, convuluted, anti-climatic end to a trilogy ever. Every chance that movie has to have a great story is thrown away to show some more cool effects and way too far on the nose imagery. Also, the ending of that film retroactively makes the other two worse imo
@_ChrisRobinson
@_ChrisRobinson 7 жыл бұрын
Imperial stats The whole thing with the Matrix rebooting again retroactively makes you care about the characters less, especially Neo, because you realize that what they're doing doesn't really matter much at all because the system will just reboot and the cycle will repeat. That's just me though
@scorpion11277

Chris Robinson The simplest explanation was Neo was the only well The One lol who choose Zion or life over the Matrix. Even though he didn't believe in fate at first, it ended up being his in the end, however he still didn't allow anyone to control his own life.

It was cool to see the evolution of the Machine War and how humanity lost, but it really didn't explain or show anything else. It didn't show the first iterations of the Matrix, or the Anomaly/One (you know, to illustrate how Neo was different from his predecessors), the creation of Zion and the Resistance, or any other burning question I had.

Yeah. It was like they wanted to show the worst of humanity by showing our last hold out would be a place where humanity would do the things they used to do when they wanted to forget about reality, by doing E, dancing to meaningless music, and hooking up. If that is the very depths of the human experience, humans wouldn't deserve to exist. Perhaps for some, that, health, and youth is the pinnacle of existence, but lucky enough, some of us have found something that puts that to shame, and even they know how empty that is, which is why we have movies like this and Nowhere, which explore the emptiness of that kind of life.

The scene _needed_ to be there. Like "Cypher" says in the 1st movie, he was sick of eating the same "goop" every day, being cold all the time, and I would add living inside what may as well be a giant car engine where nearly everything is metal. As Tank says in the 1st film, Zion is one of the few places on Earth where it's still warm. Even the programs in the Matrix, they hang out in hoity-toity restaurants and night clubs, but it's all basically an illusion...as they're just imitating a dead era of humanity, and everyone wears fancy clothes and nobody gets "dirty". The rave scene basically answers the question of why humans want to be free for real, and not plugged into a VR fantasy land all the time. Don't know about any of you, but I am totally down to rave out in a cave full of hot, sweaty women, torches and drum music. Or put it this way: Consider the traditional image of what sailors are like, after spending months at sea in cramped metal hallways and bunks, and in the case of guys on submarines, not even breathing fresh air the whole time. Think of how sailors are well-known for partying when they dock somewhere(even the ones from a long time ago, when all ships were made of wood and used sails). The rave happens after all ships are called home, and the "sailors" finally get to let off steam. It's a change of pace that's _very_ familiar(if not obligatory) if you've ever been in the military. Those old folks are called the "baby boom generation" for a reason.

Its a good sequence and like Chris mentioned in his review pretty much all the in-camera work is great (it looks like it did in the first film). Had the Neo vs Agent Smiths fight been around 20-30 of them played by actual people (or as many as they could get with the outer ones being CG perhaps) it would have been much better. We got what we got though and that's why even though parts of it are good it doesn't reach the high bar set by the original film.

Revolutions and Reloaded are movies that I feel take some time to warm up to a viewer, but after watching the films many times I really enjoy them both. Sure, they're not as good of movies as the 1st for a number of reasons, but they put their effort into them and produced some strong action films with interesting concepts. That's more than I can say for many blockbuster films as of late. Good review, I'm looking forward to the next as well!

just because it was high end technically for its generation doesnt mean that its a good idea to use it. the concept of the fight was stupid and ridiculous and the execution in CG was a bad idea because it looks ridiculous despite being high end tech in 2003
@Eon2641
@Eon2641 7 жыл бұрын
I disagree that the concept is stupid. At least, it's no more or less stupid than the rest of the ideas in the movie. As far as I'm concerned the ideas in the fight are sound, it's the execution where it trips up. Assuming you can ignore the rubbery look of the CG, Neo and the smiths feel weightless in a lot of sections and those are the particularly egregious ones like the running-on-smiths bit. On the other hand, there were also a lot of sections that were competently done in terms of the flow of the scene and the feel of the action, which is more important to some (like me) than raw fidelity. You're free to dislike it, but it's definitely not as bad as some people say it is. There's far worse CG that's come out in the last ten years.
@SmokingBirds
@SmokingBirds 7 жыл бұрын
yeb. thats ok. for some people it just sums up. i still feel like its a bad concept to make a fight like this for several reasons chief among them is the lack of weight, emotion and suspense. the fight doesnt have any impact and just devalues fighting agent smith big time. it should have made agent smith more menacing but it did so in such a cheap way. but thats just my opinion on the fight. then you have to add up the bad execution. it would have been ok for a trashy movie but not for a sequel to the very serious matrix.

First of all remember Matrix is not real world, it's computer generated. The Neo vs Agent fight scene is actually supposed to feel unreal and Neo is supposed to feel like superhero with no pain inside the Matrix because he's the One who knows everything inside th Matrix is just code and being the One he knowns he can break the rules of the Matrix such as gravity, pain, etc. Thus, he is just using his body just like a over powered video game character.

The best thing after the Matrix was the Animatrix. I think the Matrix worked so well *because* it had a philosophical theme alongside some real drama with excellently impactful fight scenes. Any official sequel would have to bear the brunt of expanding the world and up the stakes, thus inherently causing a loss of the focus the first movie had. Reloaded and Revolutions were doomed. In comparison, the Animatrix was freed from such responsibility and was allowed to freely explore the actually interesting aspects of the original in detail.

I'll go against the grain and say The Matrix Reloaded is an amazing sequel, it really expands the universe and concepts the first movie introduces, it goes deeper into the nature of the Matrix, and just feels like a much more epic and bigger movie. This is also at the same time a flaw because the first movie due to being a simpler story with characters you could root for had a different kind of appeal.

Critics say "don't overrate this movie" and yet they "over-analize it" The Matrix shouldn't be over-analyzed. If reality isn't "real" why would you expect realistic battles with realistic effects? As much as I loved The Matrix (it was one of my favorite movies), I hated the sequels. The end of the Matrix shows Neo is able to manipulate the matrix just as the agents do. Then all he does with this power to is fly around?!? He ends up fighting Agent Smith just as he did in the previous movie before he was able to stop bullets and jump inside Smith? It seemed all imagination stopped for the sequels and they just became war movies.

Pretty much all of this. To me the problem with Reloaded and Revolutions isn't so much of an actual issue with the films so much as it was with fans simply expecting to much. One of the things I loved about these movies is their references to deep philosophical questions like "What is real?" Early in the first film when Morpheous is first explaining the Matrix he draws heavily from the Descartian idea that it's impossible to really know what's real and what's not because everything you experience is just signals interpreted by your brain and of course your brain can be fooled. So this opens the viewers up to this idea that nothing is real. Part of the reason the second and third movies were recieved so badly is while the first movie asked these big philosophical questions the second two movies didn't answer them because honestly they can't be answered! However fans expected some kind of answers which is really unfair.

I believe this movie was about much more than "letting go" It is about how we ourselves can ignore the deep desires of our hearts because if those desires are real then we are just horrible monsters! The boy in this movie lies to himself. His deepest desire is for his pain to end, even if that means his mom dies. We all want things like that in a similar way but we don't say it or acknowledge it because we would hate ourselves if it were true. Those dark desires are true, but so is our desire to love others. That's what makes us human. We are complicated and contradictory. We love others but we love ourselves too, even if we won't admit it. WHAT IS YOUR NIGHTMARE?

As a personal opinion, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions are beyond being just regular films. Instead, I claim those as masterpieces. I am totally sure that creativity goes hand in hand with the capacity of the creators to make perfect, beautiful and legendary cinematic experiences. The Wachowski Brothers were born to make their vision possible, turning the Matrix trilogy into a gift for the world, which must be completely appreciated. Nowadays however, there are people not capable of comprehending the philosophical spirit of the 4 titles.

That thing that you talked about with people overanalyzing stuff about this movie and making it seem like a masterpiece is what I feel some of the people I follow on Letterboxd are doing with _Batman v Superman_.
