My guess is that the machines themselves may create the hovercrafts before each cycle and leave their partially destroyed husks for the freed human minds to find each cycle. Otherwise it seems unlikely that the human resistance would have been able to build any of them.

I figure after the old world there are thousands of not more scavangable hovercraft around the planet they could hull over to zion and leave lying around conveniently. Wouldn't take much effort to enforce the facade since they were all made at the same time period.
@Drex...3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, hovercraft technology was originally created by 01(machine city) from before the human-machine war and they actually sold it to human nations(this included stuff like flying cars). Their technological and manufacturing edge was a good excuse for jealous and failing human empires to band together and attack 01. Not sure if this is a retcon but in the first movie it shows the Nebuchadnezzar was created in the USA in 2069, which is most likely not possible as 01 didnt exist yet and i'm pretty sure hovercraft technology also didn't either, hovercraft tech only came after 01 was created in the very late 21st century-early 22nd century.
@whyjnot4203 жыл бұрын
@@Drex... Just because one place invents something, doesn't preclude it from being built, copied or refined elsewhere, just look at what China does today for an example. Not to mention things can be bought from one place, taken apart and utilized in another. For instance in ancient Rome, silks would come in from China from the long trade route between the two, They would often be taken apart, thread by thread, in order for the Romans to weave their own clothes from the threads. (very time consuming, but that was the only way for them to do it during the period it happened in) Also, while I remember the part in the Animatrix showing the production of cars with those pads on them and the assembly of one of the pads. I cannot remember anything saying specifically that they were developed after the machines sequestered themselves into 01. Without something stating as much, it is entirely possible for either a) them being invented by machines prior to 01's founding, b) invented by humans in a rough perhaps even proof of concept state and then made into practical devices by the machines. I got the distinct idea that it had been tech that actually predated the construction of 01, though not by long. Created either by the machines themselves, or by the machines while still under the thumb of humanity. At least, that is my memory of it. It has been awhile since I watched The Second Renaissance or any other part of the Animatrix for that matter. I do have the Animatrix up near the top of my list of things to rewatch atm, so if you could provide some more specifics as to when they show the origin of the pads themselves (like I said, I remember the assembly parts, I just cannot remember a part showing their invention), I would appreciate it. That is, if it is indeed from the Animatrix...... If not, I would be interested in learning where the info comes from. All that said, even when the it was just the first movie out, I have always found that builders plate to be rather suspect. I forget the exact line, but there is that one line where Morpheus is talking to Neo and he says that he doesn't know the actual date, then says two numbers and admits he doesn't know which is easier to believe. This idea is only reinforced by that obtuse conversation with the Architect later on. I simply think those builders plates are lies, left by the machines for the purpose of deceit and confusion. They could actually be builders plates made by humans, used in something else, then repurposed by the machines. All it says is mark, number, name, where it was made, year it was made. Not one bit of the info on them, proves they were originally made for the hovercraft. So perhaps they are from something that does literally predate the actual invention of the pads. fun additional thought: The plate itself is a reference to Mark chapter 3 verse 11 (MARK III No.11 is the top line on it) which says "And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God." Just one of the bazillion references to the bible in the movie. edit: btw, just a thought, if the pads were invented in the "late 21st century" a year close to 2070, as 2069 is, could easily be considered "late 21st century" as the term "late" is rather subjective. Though 2069 on its own has special meaning to a human for it is the 100th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon. edit 2: one other thing about those plates, I looked up images of them, and for the plate on the Nebuchadnezzar, there is _something_ after the A in the line "MADE IN THE USA" though I cannot tell what it is, it might just be a wrinkle or something since the rest of the plate is not smooth. But it appears to have the same gold layer on it that is used for the surface of the letters that make up the surface of the rest of the plate. You can see it in this video at 3:52 it is why I looked up images of the plate.

Short answer: Yes Long answer: No. Unfortunately, there's the giant black clouds that block out the sun, and in the 3rd movie they're shown to be able to knock out a hovercraft before it reaches space. If the clouds were gone, however, then it is perhaps possible IF and only if the hovercraft will be able to reach escape velocity

Definitely would have hampered the Machines, but like you said, kill many humans in the process. Their goal is to free humans and not kill them. If there’s no one left to free, what’s the point. Yes, so the solution to getting 99% of humanity to accept the Matrix was to give them a subconcious choice to accept or reject it - inevitably a small number would reject it, the machines would then allow them to leave and form Zion under the illusion that they were outside of the web of influence. The machines would allow this 'rebellion' to get to a certain size and then exterminate it, then start the cycle all over again.

It's sci-fi, so it's hardly something that should be of concern. But if you want a possible explanation, the hoverpads could just be very powerful super-conductor electromagnets, considering that most of the surfaces are metallic and the crafts seem to have a limited max altitude it's possible they're just using magnetic levitation. Then again, one would have to return to the Source to know more details :)
@whyjnot4203 жыл бұрын
@@Maddock_ Yeah, all it really needs is to remain logical within the fake world it inhabits and to remain consistent. Its like arguing over what vampires or zombies would do.... people love to forget that they have to constrain the discussion into one particular work of fiction or another. Which I admit, is pretty easy to forget about when you are in the middle of a really fun argument about a zombie apocalypse. edit: I would argue that the best sci-fi offers explanations of their tech that make them seem plausible rather than just handwaving them away and making them effectively space magic. Explanations do not have to be technobabble though, it can be done with visuals as well.

@@Maddock_ I would just like to point out that in the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, it shows one of the hovercraft attaining what looks to be a substantial altitude. The hovercraft do make sense in current physics. Majority of the earth is covered in metal. Given the outer Hull and pads are metal as well and give off strong bolts of electricity, there is grounds to assume its electromagnetism used to "hover".

@Massimo M I still think that is not necessary. Even if the humans woke up from the matrix, how would they survive with atrophied muscles, etc. Basically, it was b.s. that the architect was trying to deceive Neo with. Also, Neo had special powers outside the matrix, proving he was legit.
