Directed by Kevin Macdonald and based on the NY Times best-selling memoir “Guantánamo
Diary” by Mohamedou Ould Slahi, this is the inspiring true story of Slahi’s fight for freedom after being detained and imprisoned without charge by the U.S. Government for years. Alone and afraid, Slahi (Tahar Rahim) finds allies in defense attorney Nancy Hollander (Jodie Foster) and her associate Teri Duncan (Shailene Woodley) who battle the U.S. government in a fight for justice that tests their commitment to the law and their client at every turn. Their controversial advocacy, along with evidence uncovered by a formidable military prosecutor, Lt. Colonel Stuart Couch (Benedict Cumberbatch), uncovers shocking truths and ultimately proves that the human spirit cannot be locked up.

When Hollywood wants to tell us about a "true story", It means than the real story is a lot more horrible than that.

yeah, it´s funny how today we are all struggling to discern from the truth, everyone in the extreme right making everything about ´´capitalism vs communism´´ and being blind to what the system does, but guess what, sooner rather than later they will put it out there in movies. lol

Iliana Marisol Romero yeah, I guess it depends on where you get the info. People’s own recollections can be subjective, media should be objective but is soooo not, borders on propaganda. I guess you need to make your own decision based on research of facts and advice of those you trust, still scary.

Right, I reckon I’ll be hung drawn and quartered for saying this, but is it really that bad? At the end of the day a few lives are worth nothing when considering a global population of upwards of 7 billion. Furthermore, these aren’t people that have been picked up on the side of the road. They are suspects, some of them completely innocent I’m sure but suspects all the same and the advantages of this from the perspective of a society surely out weigh the individual costs from somebody being tortured? Ultimately, people around the globe are constantly getting tortured and yet they are never heard about, including governments doing it to others. Yet, why do people only care now when they make a Hollywood movie. Frankly, I have faith that on an individual level this is morally, legally and physically horrific, on a level of society, it’s justified, why else would it continue? Would you rather a man get tortured or a mall blow up killing hundreds, because that’s what is potentially at stake.

@@c.h.9547 I haven't seen the movie yet, but it seems to be a one of a kind because it chose to tackle the reality of the justice system from the US, but this is proven accurate all around the world; I've opened my eyes for some time, and in most cases, even those that seem guilty of doing horrible crimes and taken into prison, often can be very innocent... It goes without saying that your statement is absolutely wrong; the mechanics by which laws operate deem it necessary that suspects are apprehended because someone up the ladder has spoken; not for any other reasons, just because of pressure, because it needs to hold the image and rightfulness and to instill fear in all the others, to make reconsidering making any crimes... what you've just written doesn't affect in any way the outcome; it won't help by any means...
@c.h.9547
@c.h.9547 3 жыл бұрын
@@SunnyGabe so you have made two pretty heavy assumptions there. The first is that apprehending these people is done out of pressure from someone higher up which I would agree with and I don’t believe the assumption is in anyway far fetched. However, the second is what I take issue with, the claim that this is done out of fear to act as a warning shot and to install fear into the people the government controls and does not control over. This assumption simply doesn’t hold up when considering this was kept secret!!? If they wanted to maximise fear then this wouldn’t have been kept this censored for so long. Even if you argue it wasn’t kept a complete secret it wasn’t exactly made public either. Even assuming it is true though, fear isn’t necessarily a bad thing in moderation. If this does prevent a terrorise act then I’m all for it, let the buggers be scared. I guess what I’m saying is fundamentally, the world isn’t perfect, most of the time mistakes are made both legally and morally, if you get caught up with every tiny detail you won’t be able to get on with your life. My favourite saying is that “life is unfair” because there will always be innocents you can’t account for, I still maintain that this whole operation is basically irrelevant when looking at it from a perspective of impact it has on society/globally. You slightly contradicted yourself by saying that this is done to install fear, and then saying the outcome doesn’t change, perhaps I misunderstood.

@@c.h.9547 thank you for taking time in replying! I'm at a crossroads regarding how justice is done, and it does take a significant toll on my mental state since I'm, what you could call, a person that views life in black or white... My statements were made in a general idea, not about the movie; I didn't know that the plot of it, the one taken from real-life events, was mainly kept in the dark from the general public... Yes, I remain very adamant, that, at least in my country, the laws are very ruthless to those that break them, just to instill fear in the others, and determine everyone to stay out of trouble. This has proven to be a very bad tactic since it's important who exactly is exercising the power, from the small ones to the bigger ones, and more often than it should, the accused have lost money, years, decades of their life, fighting, just to prove their innocence; those that couldn't afford a good attorney were often condemned for things they didn't do, for wrongful interpretation of events. These situations are that which don't take corruption into consideration; as a matter of fact, fighting with a corrupted jury/ prosecution is a total loss since the system makes it very easy to happen... that could only be happening in my country, in which it's possible to appeal at certain juries to be given a fair trial after you lose, as I've said before, a decade... As I've said, out of morbid curiosity, and the need to stop a slight depression given by my ideal view of the world, I've used to check cases from around the world, without having skills in the field. Even the most obvious ones about persons that didn't have an alibi, were in the gray area, without being able to pinpoint the accused of doing certain atrocities. I just suspect that a fair and good set of laws is very hard to apply.

I am a 65 year old mind control target by the shadow government. I was 17 when they told me they were targeting me. They said I was chosen because my grandfather was a official in the United Auto Workers (UAW) So it appears they target those and their families that have gone against the establishment. The last thing they wanted was for the average man to make good wages and benefits. The big unions beat them for a good 60 years or so but now that`s coming to a end. They`ve covertly ruined my life. Preventing me from having a family and causing me much grief. These monster`s are pure terrorists. They are part of the New World Order now called the Great Reset. They are truly the Global Mafia. In North America they took out union officials covertly. In Latin America they just flat out murder them. Bottom line,they murder these union activists. Looking and listening to this man, and reflecting on his story, that hell he has gone through leaves every decent, humble man without a single word.. One of the saddest stories I have ever heard that had happened to an individual. His story is a proof that even "the greatest democracy" of this planet can become a fascist swamp in a split second . Hats off to the US self-criticism that has been happening through books, movies and plays only unfortunately , but the core, the main essence is still there: that country whose only population was living in tents and riding horses while my country had universities, parliament, libraries, scientific institutions etc. has been, still is and will stay a fortress of fear and paranoia. Until the large part of the US population (as we could see the last year, at least 50% of them) don't go through a massive the cathartic moment of enlightenment, we will keep watching and listening stories like this one.
