Dallas had no idea that this was waiting for them in the finals. Stifling defense at every single position on the court.
Then, the X factor, Kristaps Porzingis absolutely killing the Mavs on both ends of the court.
And it all started with him in the 1st quarter.
Porzingis was on a mission to punish the matchups. Too big for Hardy as if he’s shooting over a chair.
And because of his 3 point threat, Lively has to come out way outside, far beyond his rim protecting area. And Kristaps shows that he’s too fast for him because…
The Mavs struggled to find the right matchup for him as Josh Green was also too small for him, and things really escalated towards the end of the quarter…
Thing is, as much as he provided a boost offensively, his impact might have been even bigger on the defensive end, opening up easy transition opportunities for Boston. And then, this was just spectacular…
The length of Porzingis was a huge problem for Dallas and he was able to contest and impact a lot of shots forcing a 9 for 24 quarter for Dallas.
Even when Luka and Kyrie scored, everything looked extremely difficult. So by the end of the 1st quarter Boston had a 17 point lead which was the largest 1st quarter lead in NBA finals history.
Things only got worse for Dallas when Jaylen Brown decided that it was his turn to attack the paint, leading to this…
In the meantime, Derick Jones tried his luck on Porzingis, but it was the same old story with him raising up and knocking it down.
Kristaps continued his shooting over the smaller defenders, destroying Dallas from mid range.
And he made the arena explode with this long range bomb…
28 point lead and it’s madness in Boston.
Now, throughout all this time, there’s no mention of Tatum, finishing the half with only 8 points. But he made the right plays attacking the basket and with the defense collapsing inside, he kicks it out to the shooter for the wide open three.
Or passing up a good look for a great look in the corner and another 3.
And this is not even an assist, but so important. Tatum recognizes the double team is coming and quickly reacts, as we get the swing swing into another open shot and another 3.
But he is a superstar after all so he gave us this…
A 21 point lead at halftime and a big mountain to climb for the Mavs, but in the third they started to chip away at the deficit, with Kyrie finally stringing together a few buckets, and of course Luka leading the way.
And things got scary for Celtics fans when this happened…
Wooow, the Mavs claw their way back from down by 29, and all of a sudden it’s an 8 point game. Now it’s on, the Celtics call a timeout, and how they respond out of it will be crucial for this game.
And boy, they responded with a furious run…
Unbelievable, just like that the lead is back up to 22 in the blink of an eye.
A true champion caliber response to pressure, keeping Dallas at distance going into the 4th.
If the Mavs were going to make another push for a comeback, they needed to act fast and string together another run at the beginning of the quarter.
But instead, we got this…
And this was the nail in the coffin for Dallas in game 1. With both teams subbing out their main guys, this was the signal that Boston secured game 1 at home.
If you’re a real knowledgeable NBA fan, the finals are the perfect time to join our community on rategame, to rate and review each one of this series. Game 1 was only a 5.2 for me, similar to what you guys had. And I agree with Wisconsin Badgers, the Celtics three point shooting could be a problem, they fired away 42 of them on 38% in this one.
So download the app on iphone or android from the link in the description.
Even before the finals started, I warned Dallas fans of a move that Jaylen Brown is exploiting, that many think is illegal. He could hit the Mavs with it at any moment, so you gotta check out exactly what it is right here. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Tatum finally gets it. In previous years he would have forced the issue and had a terrible game. Feed your teammates and play D. And you have other stars. (Brown was great) I think Jrue and the subtraction of Smart changed the culture. I chalk this game up to the two guys who they picked up: Jrue and Porzingis.

@apersondoingthings5689
@apersondoingthings5689 3 ай бұрын
Except it might be hard for the mavs. The Celtics are a team built off mismatches. Most players have to be doubled or else they are scoring. Like Jaylen brown is going to have to be doubled when being defend by Luka or Kyrie, however all of the Celtics have evolved into good playmakers meaning a double likely means they are going to get an open three. That’s something only a couple of teams can counter. The wolves could do it because they were a team specifically meant to negate big men advantages and team ball like the Celtics and Nuggets do. The nuggets could do it because their offense is mostly team basketball, it was a battle of the offense. The mavs aren’t facing the thunder or clippers. They aren’t facing a largely iso ball like the clippers and thunder use. They are facing a team more akin to one the nuggets have, one that is a nightmare for even the strongest of defenses because of the passing abilities on top of really players.
@terrible2d
@terrible2d 3 ай бұрын
@@apersondoingthings5689 I agree. The issue is that the mavs defense is too weak compared to the sheer dominance the Celtics have offensively. Literally any dude on that team could give you 30 piece, not just their super stars. With the previous teams, they could let weaker players (such as Giddey on the Thunder, or Zubac on the Clippers, or McDaniels on the Twolves) be more open and they would let them take shots they had low percentages on. The issue with the Celtics is that no player has a weakness. They can hit it from anywhere, and everywhere if they're open and if they're covered. It's going to be an interesting game for sure, let's see who comes out in end. I'm a mavs fan so of course I'm hoping for us to win the series, but I seriously doubt we even have a chance against such an overpowered team.

Nice video. I am a Bostonian transplanted to Chicago where the hoops are only good in the past. Hey, only game 1 but happy to see KP do his thing. We lacked a skilled center and he certainly has that covered. JB is on a mission and that won't stop in this series. Definitely want to see Tatum rocking the rim moving forward, he looked tight and tentative in game 1. Having DW and JH round out a crazy strong starting line up has been a bid part of the team being so on top this year. AH has delivered above his pay grade and we thank him for that. Maybe we will even see a bit of PP ball skills and assists as the series continues.

This was one of the easiest waltzes to the NBA Chip I've ever seen and I've been watching the NBA since 1999. Not taking anything away from the C's but damn this was an easy year for the playoffs. Facing hurt and depleted rosters only to face one of the most top heavy rosters in recent history, essentially making it the entire Celtics roster vs Luka/Kyrie for the ring.

Dude even got criticized when he makes it work playing with another superstar like KD. Meanwhile Kyrie & Dame can get swept (consistently failed) while playing with another superstar or when they try to lead a team and ppl will still give them a whole lotta excuses for their losses. From that alone we all know who the true superstar is. I find it hypocritical that a lot of people are knocking Tatum for his bad offensive performance even though he did other things to help his team win-like he's been doing all playoffs, but Kyrie was literally getting plaudits for doing the EXACT SAME THING in the earlier rounds. I know that it's different for him compared to Tatum, but again, the same thing.

The Mavs can only win a game if both Luka and Kyrie are at their best. Offensively, they're pretty much their whole game. The Celtics just need to control one of them and not let the other one go crazy. That's it. And this time Kyrie was completely neutralized. Other than that, the Celtics have a better and deeper roster. I'm not saying they'll definitely win, but they clearly have better chances, especially considering the home court advantage and the win on game 1.

As an international NBA fan its actually really surprising to me how much you guys depress or get hyped after 1 game. It doesnt matter at all, Dallas lost most of their first games. Also its not like i saw boston dissasemble the mavs line-up and make it look easy. If mavs were shooting a little bit better it would have been another story.

The Mavs know exactly what happened. Porzingis went on a heater and the first quarter lead was insurmountable, at least against a team as good as the Celts. Kyrie and Luka are both capable of going into that zone too, or they wouldn't be in the Finals.

Boston came out extremely physical & were rewarded by the refs. Mavs attempted to match the physicality & they made their run. Issue is Boston's 5 out system raises every player's scoring because there is no rim protector. Mavs honestly need to show much more zone defense. But to be honest the series is over. Luka cant pay defense, Derrick Jones cant shoot & the Celtics have 7 guys in their rotation who would start for most of the 16 playoff teams. They're simply too deep.
