I mean, the point of the “archetype” argument was moreso, You had a developed playstyle and set of cards you COULD use off the bat, look at darklords who succeed in 2 things: getting things TO the GY, summoning from it (Morningstar might only be good as a left field finisher/swarmer but still.) but you COULD add more, like Reasoning, Allure of Darkness, Shadow’s Light and other stuff. Back then, the bad cards were BAD, while spells and the most powerful monsters were GENERALLY degenerate. (BLS envoy and Chaos Sorcerer were pretty cool though.) Perfect Circle and stuff like DAD decks were up there though, but with such a powerful deck, it’s more like you’re GONNA fight A LOT of the same thing. Nowadays you will see a lot of decks who might all Negate, swarm, pop cards, or a combination. But getting a goor hand CAN get you out of it. Then again you could draw Allure, no starters, activate it, only to BANISH YOUR ENTIRE HAND and have to lose because luck wasn’t on your side. MBT is right (even if it can feel like a hit piece. Act Man is a casual fan and that’s okay, but his video CLEARLY is just nostalgia bias speaking, SomecallmeJohnny uploaded a tamer Yugioh Retrospective and it was great.)

The reason Joeseph came off as so hostile wasn't necessarily anything against the ActMan. It was because his entire argument isn't new, nor is it valid. This viewpoint, known as being a "Yugi-Boomer", has existed FOR AGES. And has never had a leg to stand on. If you want old Yu-Gi-Oh, you can still play it. If you want it to win games in modern: too bad. 4kids dub has censorship? Yeah no shit everything has censorship. It's annoying. It's not a valid argument, it has no point, it is purely just repeating that things have in fact changed.

It's called nostalgia bias. Cap: gives MBT guff about Evil Twins' lore Also Cap: Thought Raye and Roze were sisters EDIT: Otherwise, this was a good look into how MBT does undercut Yugioh having a lot of great formats. The main issue is that there's only like 4 that see major support in the modern day.
@Gamernutritionfacts Жыл бұрын
I honestly have to agree w chat on the destiny hero’s deck not being combo. To me that just looks more like a general aggro strategy forming little micro combos It’s not a traditional yugioh combo in the way that a zoomer such as myself would think of it, which are huge, planned out plays w the goal of getting to very specific cards, whereas the strategy shown in this deck is more open to improvisation
@soukenmarufwt5224 Жыл бұрын
Besides the historical inaccuracies at times, I do mostly agree with MBT's points. I'm tired of out of touch Yugiboomers always making the same tired arguments and points. It has become so repetitive, this is especially true on the anime side of YGO, it's why I rip on them so hard. Formats, there's many legacy formats from 2003 - 2012 that were amazing to play. It's why I find Edison and Goat Format overrated. (BTW Goat Format curates Cybernetic Revolution and Excerion Universe cause reasons which I won't go into lol) Added insult why I don't take Yugiboomers seriously. There are small communities that now make private servers to play online using old YGO games from 2006 - 2015. While not reliable, still shows there's communities that can play old formats with era accurate card pool (OCG). Side note EDOpro has anime cards. There you can check out anime cards. There you can see the majority of anime/manga cards are garbage. Its why I take anime YGO fans even less seriously.

While MBT is pretty much entirely correct, his holistic approach to the video give an immense gatekeeping vibe that really kills the vibe and just says "because you dislike my hobby you are meaningless" like the Actman isn't a human being that just looks through rose-tinted glasses on a part of his childhood. He really should've gone by each argument and layed out a counterpoint rather than heaving insults at editing styles and not recognising that non-YGO players first reference point for the game is the anime; that of which Actman did recognise and use to algorithm boost
@ShyRanger Жыл бұрын
Check out his response to Rarran if you haven't. It's much more nuanced, mainly because Rarran's issues with YGO are more nuanced. Also considering Act Man is calling MBT a plague and going on a hate brigade... he didn't exactly do himself any favors.
@Toby-Wan_Kenobi Жыл бұрын
@@ShyRanger I did watch that. Very well spoken by Joseph and as you said far more nuanced to appropriately respond to Rarran with agreement as well as well informed counterpoints. I feel like that should be the standard though as calm responses like his to Rarran convey a sense of understanding and rather than hostility. If both parties are hostile, nothing gets solved, but if one or both can be calm, collected and be accepting of the opposing opinion, then a good middle ground can be achieved. I think Farfa's reponse to Rarran sums this up well as, although they clearly ended on good terms, Farfa made his arguments, whether intentional or accidental, quite aggressive and rather than defending Yugioh, he often attacked magic
@silenceyouidiot Жыл бұрын
@@Toby-Wan_Kenobi Am I misremembering, didn't Actman say he tried to privately DM MBT and MBT passed him off? That's pretty in-line with the gatekeeping, Farfa at least spoke with Actman (though the two have played Yugioh together before.)

40:20 I think Links before the this master rule ruined the game. Pendulums were just normal summoning on crack or if normal summoning and special summoning had a baby. Yeah, going second sucked extra bad back then. But at least we didn't have years of extra deck summoning kneecapped entirely for the sole purpose of nerfing pendulums' ability to pendulum summon out of the extra deck. This bricked damn near everything. Now archetypes needed their very own link monster to do anything with or they're just fucked. If you had no link monster you better hope the likes of Labrynth can carry you cuz you are DONE. And many of the archetypes couldn't put down more than one monster, normally, per turn anyways. AND their respective link monster was often hot garbage. Fuck that shit bro.
