The Ma352 is class AB. The advantage is you can tailor the sound to be warmer or more accurate depending on the make and era (NOS from 50's and 60's etc...) of tubes you use. They sound great, but if you are looking for the ma352 to sound like a tube amp. It is not the right integrated for you. It has the McIntosh house sound, a forgiving presentation that leans towards being lush and musical over unflinching accuracy.

Totally agree. Tubes are not for everyone, but when they are, they are amazing. I have some experience with tubes with headphone amps and the ability to change the sound is very nice. However, I do wonder, what do you gain from using a tube that you couldn't do with EQ?

@@ascendav The implementation of EQ changes the frequency response curve. It is far more customizable and is used to correct deficiencies within a room or a recording. Tubes are a different can of worms, something you want to defiantly audition beforehand. Do not get suckered into the so-called tube sound hype. They do introduce distortion. This distortion is not noticeable per se’, for the most part it is the type our hearing finds appealing and is mine and many others favorite type of typology. There is a big range, and the amount varies by the type of tube used and typology of the amplifier. For example, a SET (Single Ended Triode) with a 300b tube will have a lot of more body in the midrange and upper end. They give the illusion that a vocalist is in the room with you. So, the distortion they add, gives a greater sense of realism to a singer’s voice. Other types, like an ARC with a bank of KT150 tubes are bold and dynamic with al lot of punch. The sound of this amp is akin to, but not really a good solid-state amp. An amp like the ARC 160M is still rich on vocals but not to the same degree. Due to their wide dynamic range and low coloration, they do very well with orchestral, EDM, and Rap. Things that are bass heavy, where a Single ended amp like the Cary 805rs tends to sound best with the singer close to the microphone Coffee House type of stuff. This is an oversimplification to illustrate a point. There is a lot of overlap.

But it is hybrid. Tube preamp with a output SS as you know in this model. I still believe this is the best combo. Tubes are best used for Input stage and ,SS for output. I think you will still get a warm, tuby sound here.

tubes for pre and ss for output . tube pre give the sound a more analog but real sound to the music but the ss output brings punch to the bass where tubes in the output can be bit soft or even mushy

I was the one who asked this question. Thank you for posting this. I have looked at this unit for both music and home theater via a 2.1 system set-up w/Klipsch RF-7 III's and SVS SB16. It is expensive yet should last a lifetime (other than the tubes). It would also need the McIntosh MB20 Bluetooth transceiver with built in DAC since the amplifier does not have a DAC. The MB20 costs $500.00. What do you think of this set-up for both music and home theater?

There's more cost effective ways and bettery quality options to add wireless abilities, including wifi, Tidal Connect, etc, you don't need a Mcintosh Module for that.

McIntosh is endgame for most people, although if you are big into audio you might prefer something like the new Michi X5 Integrated for music for neutrality as McIntosh rolls off the highs for a smoother sound

200W, has to be AB. This is not a small unit, 17.5 in wide, full rack width, nearly 10 inch tall. It is big, and tube-amp heavy even if the tubes are only in the preamp section. This needs to be tabletop (and it would look great) or on its own very open, airy rack shelf.
