The Meaning of "I Love You"

Fr. Mike breaks down the real definition of love, which is willing the good of the other for the other.
He goes further than that though, saying that if we truly believe in Christ, then the loving thing to do would be to share Christ with others by being his witness.
St. Valentine risked his life by being a witness for Christ and for love. In our calling as Christians, let’s be courageous and love others not just by doing good deeds for them, but by sharing Christ with them.

I had a discussion about love yesterday with my boyfriend. He says that love is our involuntary response to virtue. I used to agree with him and stand by the same definition. He says he doesn't love me anymore, because I stopped being virtuous. How did I do that? I simply started believing in GOD recently and he, a convinced atheist, believes that I have renounced Reason and Logic and that I no longer have Truth as my highest value. Therefore he can no longer admire me or have feelings for me. By his definition, love is just a selfish enjoyment in the virtue of someone else (and he thinks atheism is a virtue). But I realized that I care about him and about other people even though they are not (particularly) virtuous. I want to help them, I want them to see what is bad for them and change course. I am extremely grateful for finding again my faith in God! Even if it means losing this relationship.

True love is beautiful. The desire to lay down your life for another is the greatest love. To want to spend your life with another - not for your own benefit - but for their own is such a beautiful thing... That love is such a beautiful and underrated feeling in this world.

Fr. Mike did a video on why we use the term Father when referring to priests and he uses Sacred Scripture. Also, the video ""Call no man father" disproves Catholicism"" from the channel lizzesanswers uses a TON of Sacred Scripture that supports these familial terms like Father👍

Two days ago, God Our Father Almighty saved me from a Moto accident. If that isn't Love, I dunno what is. I keep saying "thank You Jesus" and I attended Mass too on the occasion. I know it sufficed for me to do that Lord, but I can never stop saying "thank you". Thank You, thank You, thank You...!!!! If You saa that I don't love You enough, God I hope You do know I am trying to. I better die trying than not do anything at all. Much Ndolo from Cameroon.

Love in a nutshell is placing others before oneself. It's about being there for the person in good times but more importantly the bad times. If a person says they love Christ but abandoned their faith one could argue if that person truly loved Christ at all. The same applies with marriage and divorce one could argue if that person loved their spouse at all. Once a person puts themselves before another person it's not love.

I read this in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: "God desires all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4); that is of Christ Jesus (John 14:6). Christ must be proclaimed to all nations and individuals, so that this revelation may reach the ends of the earth." That's only part of it, but it says, ALL, not some, ALL. We need to think about that.

There were 10,000 people who saw moses part the red sea. There were over 3000 people, maybe 5000 who saw moses conjure water out of the rock. There were 5000 people there when Jesus fed the congregation with two dosen baskets. I don't browbeat the people around me with the truth. I'll happily state mundane things like food and money come from God. I'll breifly mention spirituality is the last staircase of the many staircases on Mazlows staircase. Irritated atheists I leave alone. They were irritated atheists yesterday and will be irritated atheists tomorrow. I shut down petty arguments before they even start. Christianity is meant to answer questions and bring peace. I dont engange the irritable atheist much further.

So often we are drawn toward what others can give us without understanding that we must give something in return, I like to think of it as the "trap of free things". We gather so much in our packs, but it is up to us to use what we have collected for the good of our families or our friends. A friend of mine complains often about inventory management because his bags are always full and some trash needs to be thrown away. It could be clothes, food, scraps of material, or the like; if it can be given away through selling or offered as charity, you should take that as an example.

Like so many, I believe that my religious belief is a private matter. And yet, it is only natural to want to express my abiding commitments. Thus, I frequently wear a large cross that others can see. Thus, I carefully listen to others express their religious or spiritual enthusiasms. Schizophrenic? I wonder. At any rate, I am always open to a thoughtful video from Fr. Mike. And thankful.

sierraMusicrrmusic, in case Fr. Mike cannot get back to you I will give you a Catholic take on your statement. The soft spot Your soft spot for the Catholic church I s the natural desire we have to seek our God and Creator . God made us because he wants to love us and be loved in return. You would be most welcome to come to celebrate the sacrifice of the Mass at any Roman Catholic Church. Or drop in for a quiet visit with our l ord. Don't worry if you don't know what to do when you get there. Observe and follow what most other people are doing, except When when most people start walking to the alter , You should stay in your seat. You will need some formal instruction before you can receive Holly Communion. You can usually find a priest to introduce yours ilf to after mass, if you wish. There is nothing better than experiencing God's love up close and personal. God Bless you.

Father Mike, thank you so much for all that you teach in your videos! They have brought a lot of clarity and joy to my life. Could you please think about recording a video speaking to parents about letting go of your adult children as they enter relationships in their adult life. My parents are very passionate about their catholic faith but they seem to think that they can still control their adult children’s lives and their choices even once they have moved out of the house and are not dependent on their parents. I am engaged and trying to keep my relationship healthy and growing with my fiancé leading up to the wedding, but because of certain choices of mine my parents are getting very vocal and upset that I don’t feel the need to “obey” them anymore. My fiancé is a farmer and lives in a very isolated area and because of that my only option for night conditions is to stay at his house. I am not living with him, I’m only visiting him on weekends. He is very respectful of me and we are being chaste with each other but it’s upsetting my parents so much that they are starting to threaten that they won’t come to the wedding if I don’t change my visiting arrangements. It hurts that they won’t trust me and I want my wedding to be a celebration of family and of new life. I hope you understand my dilemma. I would really appreciate it if you could speak about this. I think that I also want to understand this more too. God bless you Father!

Acts 1:8 is where Jesus told us to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth. He said this to the disciples and he meant it for all of us... "to the ends of the earth." These were Jesus' last words before he rose up into heaven (during the Ascension) and they have significant meaning because they were his final thoughts that left the biggest impact on the disciples.

So this raises the question: How do we love God? If loving someone is willing (choosing) that which is good for them, then what is good for God? From what I know of God, it's that He desires us, our companionship, our worship. He loves us with incredible eros, so could we say that what is good for God is having us and our devotion. But also, God loves each of us, willing the good for us so I guess that's why Jesus said "What you do to the least of these, you do to me." What is good for God is when His Children love each other. So I guess, we can love God by being in relationship with Him and by loving His Children. Kk... so like, that's what I tell my kids at Sunday School, so like, I think it really is pretty simple.
