Dans got an incredible book that I can’t recommend more. It’s shaved countless shots off my score. I’m easily sinking single puts rather than 2 or 3 putting because I’m able to control the ball so much better after reading his book.

Good interviewers let the host speak more - Dan has been teaching this for a long time and is one of the few coaches who can actually hit the shots as well - would have liked to heard more from him as he has a back of simplifying complex shots

Wondering how Joe Mayo and Victor Hovland would counter some of these insights. Seems different strokes for different folks!!!

This is brilliant. Transformed my chipping and short pitches. Feel like I’m Using bounce on wedges for first time ever. Key for me was - keeping 60 in the bag. - used my 50 around green and opened it up slightly. - shallower backswing and through swing - slower, more patient and gravity controlled backswing and through swing (rather than my previous steep, quick and choppy..) - felt like I was bottoming out just before ball and it was pinching nicely - handle / shaft much more neutral vs hands way ahead… - felt like handle was more connected to body turn and pointing more at my right thigh as I turned through at finish (rather than handle pointing to left of my body Anyway worked for me today. Lots more up and downs than normal. Thanks for the content!!

Your Fitzpatrick example is literally like 1 out of the top 100. Trying to mimic the outlier probably isn’t the best place to start.

Oh Dear the usual clueless stuff about chipping with 6,7,8 and 9 iron. Modern golf clubs with are designed for the modern ball are designed for the ball to come off the face like a rocket. Try chipping on a links course with a 6 iron you will be lucky to keep on the green. I have my 8 iron from the 1960s . It has the same loft as a pitching wedge. The old Dunlop 65 british size balls were much softer and easier to control. The main problem for finesse shots is what is the engine?. For a right handed golfer the left arm is pulled. Unfortunately most golfer's right hand is too dominant. This is worse for golfers have played another sport where the right hand is very active. You will find that you can chips more consistently with a left handed wedge. Why did Matt Fitzpatrick change his grip.

I chip with 6-iron all the time and some times a 4 iron or a hybrid. Read what Gary Player says. He’s rated as #3 short game ever.

@jimkelly6078 …surely the visualisation of the desired shot outcome leads to the correct choice for execution..? How best to achieve that goal (consistently) is down to the skill level of the golfer. There is no “one way / must always do this” method. Grieve is a top class coach and I find that his methods do help with working towards a predictable outcome and specific ball flight. There is no right or wrong answer with short game..?
