Surly Bosses ,flat rate, $10,000 in tools, before you start, never allowed to make a mistake, you become the enemy if you ask for a raise, no health care unless you pay for it , no retirement , unless you are in a union, And always referred to as "Just a mechanic". And you always have scars and smell like whatever you worked on. 90 weight gear was my favorite perfume.

Left because of flat rate and expensive health care through the dealership. The dealer will never get rid of flat rate. The technician invest a lot of their own time and money on expensive tools and training. They deserve a a really good guaranteed salary not flat rate (feast or famine). I also remember the dealer paying service advisors more than techs, that doesn't make sense.

I hear about ten workers making way more money and better work condition Tec. Most people I talk to don't want to work with their hands.

The manufacturers and dealerships know what the solutions are.. Technicians have been screaming it until they are blue in the face. The manufacturers and dealers are acting dumb and practicing cognitive dissonance. Screw em let em go out of business.

The owner in his clean collared shirt and khakis sitting in a climate controlled showroom surrounded by his collection of classic cars can’t understand why nobody wants to go change out the gear box on that F250 farm truck for .8hr warranty pay @ $20 an hour flate rate, aka $16. 🤔

A few things would solve your issue.... 1. PAY THEM 50 AN HOUR. + BENNIES 2. TOOL ALLOWANCE 3. QUIT MAKING THINGS SO HARD TO MAINTAIN FOR GODS SAKE.

A lot of manual labor trades and professional people have to be licensed to practice; auto mechanics have no licensing requirements. Many, but not all, people in the auto industry are swindlers and incompetent. A historical fact. The new stuff requires a technical engineering aptitude. It's no longer just manual labor. No license, no accountability.
