My concern with that is that other trans athletes who haven't made the team before would simply move in and take their spots, leaving the women athletes with nothing. It feels like there's a huge number of trans people, because we hear so much about it in the media, but you're right that it wouldn't be really that many. And as you say, if women's teams refuse to compete against teams that have trans athletes on them, the dynamic will shift, although I doubt it would be immediate. In the short term, the teams and athletes refusing to compete would be forfeiting the matches, giving trans athletes the win in those matches. But if the no-trans teams continue to compete against each other and just shut out the few teams allowing trans athletes, those "free wins" will start to look less and less interesting. I've heard that baseball players get irritated if a pitcher deliberately walks them because he knows he can't strike them out. The pitcher is not giving the batter a chance to show what he can do. Maybe by the same token, teams might get tired of empty "forfeit" wins, and start looking to make changes to the team.

I think also, many sports, teams have set numbers of partcipants allowed and required in order to enter competition, and my guess is no competition will be held if there is only one or two people competing from 2 teams. There will be no one to compete against, and likely to be against the rules. In single sports, it would be just as effective. And, if women do not take a stand by doing this, and do it soon, future generations of women will be dealing with it ad nauseum. As I see it, this is the only way short of legislation, and it will be very effective in the mean time. Women's sports must be preserved for females. This seems very obvious to me, and I can't think of a more effective way. Do you have any other thoughts? BTW, I have really enjoyed this conversation!
