In this webinar within the "Tuesday mornings in Tokyo" series of Smithsonian-Meiji University webinars, Professor Ken'ichi Sasaki (Meiji University) speaks about "The Meiji University Expedition to Alaska in the 1960s." Series co-hosted by Dr. Paul Michael Taylor (Smithsonian, Asian Cultural History Program) and Dr. Toru Yamada (Meiji University), with generous support from the U.S. Embassy, Tokyo. Abstract: In 1960, Meiji University organized a large-scale research expedition to Alaska, one of the school’s 80th anniversary activities. A group of archaeologists were in the initial expedition. They conducted archaeological research in Alaska in collaboration with scholars and institutions in the United States. In this presentation, Prof. Sasaki will present vivid details of the Japan-US archaeological collaboration behind the expedition.
