Top marks for the director chap. Showed interest and made a polite enquiry then pleasant conversation. It would be great if he could train the other staff on how to interact with the public.

It’s ironic that they celebrate the glorious dead upon these walls, men who fought and died for our freedom and yet here are public employees attempting to prevent a perfectly legal activity of no harm to anyone, there can be no expectation of privacy. So why the fuss. Most of our laws are intended to protect us from harm or loss. Keep laughing my friend

Quite. It needs to said to these cretins again and again that it's the same law that allows the Council to film the public that also allows the public to film the Council
@djmike123453 ай бұрын
@@28johann1What law are you talking about ?
@28johann13 ай бұрын
@@djmike12345 It boils down to the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Data Protection Act 2018, which give the specific circumstances in which your privacy can be deemed violated. For example, your photos and private messages shouldn’t be shared with the public without your permission, details like your address and phone number get extra protection, and so on. However, these and other privacy laws apply only when there is a “reasonable expectation of privacy.” So, if someone records a video or takes a photo of you in places where you might not expect much privacy (on a bus, on the street, in a shop etc) it’s perfectly legal for them to do so, and although you can ask them to delete the videos, you can't legally compel them to. There has been a number of high-profile cases recently which make interesting reading, and have led to calls for the above Acts to be repealed - but it's interesting that those who want this (eg famous people sick of being photographed) find themselves being opposed by others (eg big companies who like using CCTV to film people as a matter of principle). Wherever you stand on the issue, what's ironic of course is that these very same companies often get very upset when being filmed themselves, and it's this that LA and others successfully highlight imo.

These councils should be made to be open to cameras, they are public buildings. I went into Barnsley Town Hall with my camera not long ago. No issues, they were happy for me to walk all over filming the excellent exhibits and displays. It was really good, and a lovely building. They also had exhibits from the Lord of the Rings film in there including the actual ring used in the film. No cameras but have QR codes to scan🤷♂️ Environmental head was a good guy👍

I live just down the road from here in this part of London and Merton Council are a bunch of self-absorbed jokers who couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery - with some of the councillors looking down their noses at those who pay their wages. The office block which houses the Merton Council staff was originally called Crown House when it was built in the 1960s, but I always refer to it as Clown House because of most of the employees who work in there.
