The film is a simple critique of the cold art of modern cuisine and the whole bunch of rich people and snobs behind that industry I don't think the movie needs much more for that message

How would you define "woke"? When used as a pejorative, most people would say something like, "an overemphasis on niche identity politics at the expense of class solidarity." And the Menu is, if anything, far more concerned with class than identity politics. The guests are fairly diverse on an identity level (e.g., gender, race) but are all, save for Margot, united by the fact they exorbitant wealth. None of the characters' hands are clean; there's an ambiguity where you can't side neatly with the guests or the chef and staff. So for all its flaws, this is a class conscious movie, which is almost the opposite of "woke." If you're going use a different working definition of the term, then you should define it, otherwise it just seems like you put it in the title to attract clicks.

Thats fair criticism I should have explained what I perceived as "woke Hollywood" before I did my analysis. For me, I have always seen woke as the recognition and addressing of institutional problems whether race, sexism, classism, or sexuality. This woke definition is the one that was recognized at the beginning of such movements before being co-opted for agendas. Whenever Hollywood addresses these issues they don't ever go deeper than the surface level. Though i still have defined it. I understand the menu was about classism but I also felt they mentioned other issues enough that more commentary should have been made. According to mariam websters definition woke: aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/woke I used this definition to form my thoughts. And contrasted to the often misused version seen across social media and Hollywood.

What I understand is that you dislike the movie because of its message. In my opinion, the movie is good because the fact that its so subtle in its message. I dont believe the movie is trying to convince you anything in particular, youre mainly supposed to take what you want from it. The movie isn't just trying to say "rich people bad" and it shouldnt be considered bad for whatever reason a person might want interpret it.

I was saying for the themes presented by the movie, it didn't commit enough to it. The movie wasn't woke at all but acted like it was trying to have social commentary. Hollywood has an issue were it doesn't commit to deeper social commentary instead they are surface level. Which is Hollywood's version of woke. It is a perversion on the actual meaning of being woke. The video was a little tongue in cheek tho lol. I promise my other videos arent like that though. Thank you for view and comment.

I didn't think it was super woke. Although pretty much every man in the film is deeply flawed with little to no redeeming qualities. While you could argue that at least 2-3 of the women were purely victims of circumstance, only in the situation because of something their partner did. Its a little heavy handed in showing all the negative things that men can be, while there's no focus whatsoever on any of the women's flaws apart from maybe the annoying food critic. Again, not super woke just a little tiresome and heavy handed, I felt.

I think a lot of companies especially disney, who did produce this movie, sanitize a lot of their content and will pretend to be doing something bigger than it really is. Just to catch headlines but thats it.
