Thanks Lexo TV for sharing this part of our history and getting it right. I am a descendant of the Merikins. I went to Fifth Company Baptist School. The Merikins have been showcasing their history for many years now. There are videos on KZbin for people who don't know about this part of our history. Thanks again 👍

I only began to learn of the Merikins back in 2012 when I shared an article from a Canadian newspaper (I live in Montreal; my parents are Trini, and I lived there till I was 5 years old) about the War of 1812. A Trini friend of the family commented underneath the post, saying "Some of my ancestors fought in that war." I was like, "Dafuq??" She explained to me that some of her folks were Merikins and how they ended up in Trinidad. That's the beauty of history: No matter how much you already know, there's *ALWAYS* more to learn. 😉

So true.

I live in North Vancouver, Canada. And I believe my ancestor were Merikins, that rised up and killed there oppressors and joined the British in the war of 1812. If it wasn't for the Merikins, Canada would not be Canada. Oh did I mention that my paternal descendants live in La Lune, Moruga.

@@RogerAlexis no it's absolutely my privilege to watch. It's so wonderful to see my fellow Trinidadians doing things that are so positive on KZbin. There are other fellow West Indians that are struggling to tell the truths of the world from our prospective. I don't want to get big into it or start mentioning names but this platform doesn't seem to like that. Therefore I'm so proud of you Roger. Not only did you give the world a perspective from our point of view but you express truth and fact in a in a very clever and meaningful way. Keep up the good work my brother!!!

Well Done!!! What an interesting switch up from the usual videos. It reminds us how we can make learning history entertaining. I would've like to see a little more of present day Morugans, like a puppet character....does she sound total Trini or is there a slight accent left? lol (Maybe u can make a character who sounds Trini but tries to put on a Yankee accent & thinks he's better/different cause of his 'Merikan Forefathers' lmao)

Nice history lesson. Please keep it up and maybe inject a bit of humour into future episodes. Interesting to know there were Africans who weren't slaves and there was a difference of rank between the 2 groups resulting in a physical and geographical separation between them. It make one more appreciate ex-slaves who made it thru the ordeal to become educated, wealthy and successful business owners. Is there an east Indian parallel to this story?
