The Merry Merchant Makes - Hnefatafl
Hnefatafl (pronounced Nhev-eh-TAH-full) is an ancient board game similar to chess and means Kings table. It started in Scandinavia and traveled to many countries with the Vikings sometime around the 8th century. Today many people know this game simply as The Viking Game or Viking Chess.
Hnefatafl is an intense strategy game in which the King and his defenders are outnumbered 2-1 and attempts to escape to safety at one of the four corners of the game board before being surrounded by the enemy.
Our game board is burned onto a flexible piece of suede leather which is about 18" diameter and turns into a leather pouch for easy transport.
