Sparks appearing on Children's TV programme "The Mersey Pirate" in 1979. It was filmed on a boat in Liverpool and this replaced Tiswas whilst it took it's 3 months break..

I was actually on the 'Mersey Pirate' when this was filmed. I was very lucky to be able to chat to Russell on top deck of the Royal Iris on which it was filmed. Unfortunately Ron had the flu and couldn't be there. I'm pretty sure that Manchester new wave band The Smirks also played on that show.

You've conversed with Russell! You git. What did you get to say? What did HE say?

Did you live in the Tyne-Tees region? That’s probably why - the people running the station thought that war movies were more interesting!

Thank you so much for uploading this lost footage. Is there any more from this or other episodes?

The Mersey Pirate is actually quite rate to find in the archives, because it was filmed on a boat, they transmitted from a boat, which meant the quality of the recorded visuals isn't great, nor was it easy to capture.
