When you're an artist, you sometimes get stuck in a cycle of art block > feeling low because you cannot make art > even less motivation to try > art block etc A different perspective: vent art or just doodling can really help me get out of an anxiety spiral or a particularly bad self loathing state. Sometimes there's feelings I cannot quite articulate but it helps to process them through art. I'm about to go to bed but I think I'll draw something cool tomorrow! At least I'll try. :)

"There is no disappointment if there is No expectation!" -from idk who This quote has stuck with me for a while now, and it's true. Anyways good video Oliver love the informational video on this, it also brings up the fact that mental health is a key to your art growth. Great video, and I hope things clear up soon! My favriote redraw was, the one with wings in that pose it was a nice blue as well.

I kinda want to add that if you're an artist that hates everything you draw and you can't really find a reason, it might be because you're going through rapid improvement. I had a phase where everything I drew I thought looked stupid and bad and that's purely because my art was changing into my current style. Just keep pushing through this phase, cause it'll really pay off in the end. Great video Oliver, it was very informative and the art looks great! ♡

Have to agree, there is definitely a line between resting and procrastination (in my personal opinion). I tend to find that, if I spend some time away from art, I will procrastinate from doing it because I've become super anxious about creating. "Because I rested, will I be worse?" And all that fun stuff! I'm also mega guilty of slipping back to my comfort zone when feeling like this, I try to treat it more as a warm up exercise now though and move into "stretching my art legs". I have an assertive mental voice that just goes "make a damn mark yo" 😂. Don't stare into the void of your plain canvas, just make a mark 💞

It's crazy that you made this video right now because those days I really feel like my "art" is even worst than it used to be! It could be because all the mental health thing, since my depression seems to be getting worst, but even just a simple face comes out like sh1t. When I flip the drawing I can see how wrong everything is... I mean, I can't even call myself an artist, and I feel like I'll never be one. I don't even know what I'm saying, I'm just so unmotivated. Anyway I really love your style and I could watch you coloring all the day! You really have improved so much 🥰 sorry for my english

Hearing you keep saying to just take a break when you feel burnt out is e x t r e m e l y helpful bc I had a huge burn out that lasted at least half a year and I couldn’t think of anything to draw or just unmotivated so it took me almost a year to finish one of my sketchbooks. Thank you for telling everyone that’s ok to take a break during burn out bc it helped me when I took a break! Please listen to this advice because it’s very helpful! 💖

This was the perfect video for me. I’ve been diagnosed with depression and have been dealing with it for 3 years now. I have my ups and downs, I have gone through a lot of self hatred, and especially right now, I feel very useless, but I’ve still been still studying and putting in a lot of effort in making my art better. Currently though everything I draw I see as absolutely terrible, but, after seeing this video I’m realizing it’s probably a combination of improvement and self deprecation that’s making me feel so terribly about my art. After knowing this I want to push through this stage and become the better artist I see I can be! ❤️

This is nice to see because i just feel like I haven’t been improving in my art for a few months… I have been drawing for 7 years and I just feel like my art isn’t very good. My last drawing took me 5 hours and at first I was proud, but a drawing a drew around 3 months ago looked almost just as good and only took me 2 hours. I can’t tell if I truly am not improving or if it’s just because I push myself too hard. I always have high expectations for my art and I think it’s always past my skill set. I often compare myself to their artists rather than compare to my own art. I usually do anime art but this year I’ve been studying realism to get out of my comfort zone.

Progress is not linear. I watched someone else's art journey video recently and noticed every time she worked on other subjects besides her main thing, which was watercolor birds, she'd get better at the birds. Like she did a 100 heads challenge and after that her birds took a huge leap. Same with her practicing landscapes.

Also physical health obviously affects art, too. Sadly. It sucks when you wanna draw but you've got a headache. Personally I have undiagnosed (and untreated) pain from hypermobile joints which mostly affects my fingers and wrists - you can see how this would be annoying for drawing. Sometimes I'll get jolts of pain in the middle of a drawing and I'll have to take a break until it fades again. It really stifles your progress :(

My art has been going fine but my writing battery just isn't working at the moment. As for the art improvement thing, I think that sometimes we compare the wrong things. My last sketchbook was just about me working on trying to get my faces to look different, not color or poses or anything like that. I just wanted to have fun and work on tweaking my faces. If you compared the art in that one to the sketchbook before it, it would look like I didn't improve at all but if you compare the faces there was improvement. I noticed that with people who critique my work. I'd be working on improving on a facial expression and they'd insist that the shoe needs to be fixed. The shoe doesn't need fixing because that's not what I'm practicing. We do that to ourselves too. 'I have to improve everything now' when really focusing on one thing and comparing that one thing to an older drawing will show the improvement. My lineart has improved so much because I focused on it a lot. Color theory? Not so much but that's fine. One thing at a time. I keep telling myself that years from now, I'll look back and be grateful that I took the time to focus on one thing at a time than trying to improving everything at once and burning out PS. What is Andy's pronouns? I thought it was they/them but I heard you say her
@OliversAntics692 жыл бұрын
Andy's pronouns are they/them! All the other characters use she/her so I was probably referring to one of them. That's a totally valid point though, I never really thought if that!
