This is essential,Nasrs intuition into the metaphysical ground of history is illuminating.

This is a great antithesis for Jared Diamond's very influential book Guns, Germs, and Steel. His mechanistic way of tracing human development really does disregard China, which had the exact same factors in Europe (steel, germs from domesticated animals, and black powder) but they didn't embark on a worldwide killing spree. MashAllah!

Great lecture from a brilliant mind. It would seem that humanity is on an endless loop between “Heaven and Earth” given the recent archaeological findings in Turkey of buried giant metropolises dating back ten to twelve thousand years ago. Not primitive. Just extinct. Can’t say whether they were monotheistic either. Humbling.

How can ecological crises be the product of metaphysical processes? It is the product of physical process which are defintionally undergirded by a metaphysical order

What makes you so certain about the latter?

And what started those physical processes?

Listen to 4:40-5:08 for your answer. He makes it clear there. We have leaned into a certain metaphysical perspective and have been instantiating the consequences of that perspective for hundreds of years, and those consequences have only accelerated with time.
