The Metro in Bilbao, Spain 2022 - Bilboko metroa

The Bilbao metro (Spanish: Metro de Bilbao, Basque: Bilboko metroa) is a rapid transit system serving the city of Bilbao and the region of Greater Bilbao. Lines 1 and 2 have a "Y" shape, as they transit both banks of the river Ibaizabal and then combine to form one line that ends in the south of Bilbao. Line 3 has a "V" shape connecting the municipality of Etxebarri with the Bilbao neighbourhood of Matiko; the apex of the "V" is Zazpikaleak/Casco Viejo station, where all three current lines meet. The metro is connected with the Bilbao tram, Bilboko Aldiriak (commuter rail services), Euskotren Trena (commuter rail services), Feve (commuter rail services, regional and long-distance trains), Renfe long-distance trains and Bilbao's bus station (Bilbao Intermodal). All three lines use metre gauge.
As of 2021, the Metro operates on 51 kilometers (32 mi) of route, with 48 stations. It is the third-busiest metro in Spain, after the Madrid and Barcelona metro systems.
The system was inaugurated in 1995, partially taking over a suburban railway line operated by Euskotren, first opened in 1887. A second line was added in 2002, running together with line 1 within Bilbao, and then serving towns along the left bank of the Ibaizabal-Nervion estuary. Line 3, operated by Euskotren, opened in 2017. Unlike the first two lines, which form an isolated system, line 3 is operated jointly with the Euskotren Trena commuter railway network ~Wikipedia

The metro lines in Bilbao were built to 1000mm guage so that they could take over existing 1000mm suburban rail lines. A similar thing has happened in Valencia in southern Spain where (again) the track guage is 1000mm . Narrow guage metros are not that unusual. Many Tokyo metro lines are 1067mm guage - again so as to be compatible with suburban railway lines.

According to description, that's the same gauge as Łódź's, Bydgoszcz's and Toruń's tram systems! Also, it was opened in the same year, as the only our country's one (Warsaw one). How many years were to build the first section of it? I like more of it than Warsaw's, mostly due to design (it's modern and, at this time, "going into the 21st century").

it took 7 years to complete the first section, including adapting the Bilbao-Plentzia line to metro standards and building a new depot in the town of Sopela

The Basque Country had a lot of commerce interaction with England during the industrialization of the late 1800s, many migrated to work in mines, so the rail lines built to transport goods and people were built up to British standards I assume.

@@CityWhisperer You're mistaken. Spain originally drove on the left side of the road up until 1924, when it switched to the left. Hpwever, the metro systems in Madrid and Bilbao (and to a lesser extent, Barcelona) remain as LHT to this day.

Also, all high speed lines run on the right until the Perthus tunnel at the French border, where it switches to the left side. Broad-gauge routes of the former FC del Norte, north and west of Madrid, are left-hand running.
