Rotterdam is the 2nd largest city in Netherlands by population at just over 600,000 people.
The Rotterdam Metro (Dutch: Rotterdamse metro) is a rapid transit system operated in Rotterdam and surrounding municipalities by RET. The first line, called Noord - Zuidlijn (North - South line) opened in 1968 and ran from Centraal Station to Zuidplein, crossing the river Nieuwe Maas in a tunnel. It was the first metro system to open in the Netherlands. At the time it was also one of the shortest metro lines in the world with a length of only 5.9 km (3.7 mi).
In 1982 a second line was opened, the Oost - Westlijn (East - West line), running between Capelsebrug and Coolhaven stations. In the late 1990s, the lines were named after two historic Rotterdam citizens, the Erasmus Line (North - South) after Desiderius Erasmus and the Caland Line (East - West) after Pieter Caland. As of December 2009, these names were dropped again in favour of a combination of letters and colours, to emphasize and clarify the difference between the separate branches, especially of the former East - West line.

Almost every moderate or large city in the world has these beautiful, modern, subways, trams, except the USA. USA is 100 years behind every country in public transportation. The infrastructure doesn't exist, and if it does, it's hopelessly out of date. USA trains, trams look like something from the 1950s. Most cities don't even have them.

I watched a documentary last week about the infrastructure in your nation, holy crap, honestly i was shocked !! Roads, bridges, connections, levees, railways etc etc it looked like all goes to hell pretty soon.

Public transportation is for commies ya'll! No but seriously, i think that the US government simply doesnt regard transportation as their responsability. And maybe the once gargantuan automobile industry didnt like the competition.

And yeah... im from Amsterdam , im 38 and i dont even have a drivers licence and many of my friends dont either. There is just no need so owning a car is just waisting money.

вагоны внутри можно и нужно делать комфортней. Внутренний дизайн вагонов откровенно убогий, используемые материалы в отделке похоже что тоже. Система навигации и информирования пассажиров в вагоне вообще из прошлого века по-моему. Представленные автором станции тоже какие то скучные. Можно было бы их хотя бы хорошим дизайнерским освещением освежить и приукрасить. Хотя возможно они скорее всего уже нуждаются в капиталочке.
