If I were picking one for her voice, I think it would be the U87, but the V13 was nice, too. Thanks for the shoot out - very useful.

MXL Revelation is my favorite mic I've used. I think it suites my voice and guitar more than a u87, 414, any of the blue mics, etc. Its just so amazing. I don't even know how to explain. MXL will always have the rep of making cheap home studio stuff, so sadly it never got the recognition it deserved.

For her, the U87 is just about perfect. The KM 56 has gorgeous high detail, would be lovely as a second "accent" mic. The 414 sounds rather dull and flat with her voice. The Vanguard is smooth, and lovely on top, may need a bit rolled off at the bottom. The surprise, to me, is that Marshall is in this game; the Revelation really performs well. It wouldn't be my choice, but it does a very good job. Thank you for making these videos; they're both fun and informative.

I have a Manley reference cardioid and I still prefer my mxl revelation. Seriously the most underrated mic ever

Revelation and V13 sounded somewhat similar, but the V13 seems to have more depth, more 'alive'. Both seem very useful vocal mics here. U78 seemed nice and warm at first but I can see how it could be a bit muddy when mixed. The 414 sounds flat and boring. KM56 is very special, a good vintage tone which I love but it is kind of unobtanium!

It’s rare to see the nickel diaphragmed Neumanns. It sounded wonderful. The 87 is my automatic go to, so it was odd that it alone was 2-3 dB quieter.

Hi - it was recorded at Qerenne's Home studio during a corona -lock-down - with none of the above :) if i remember right it's some senheiser dynamic vocal mic .

you are not totally wrong, but im sure if it was in the context of a song we would get comments asking to have it soloed :) We do believe that when soloed you get more of how much room a mic picks, how it treats sibilances, how much proximity effect etc. but we definitely might do such a video later on - thanks for your comment!

I couldn’t disagree more. You need to hear the mic on the source to hear if it is the right choice. Often the song is mixed around the voice so microphone choice is critical.
