It was Hot, we stayed in the Water by the microphones is the original album of the trilogy, much more instrumentally similar to the Glow pt.2, even having the first “Glow song”. The three albums are supposed to represent the four elements: Fire, Water, Air & Earth. Glow pt. 2 is Fire, Mount Eerie is air and earth, and It Was Hot is water. Definitely should listen to it just to get the whole picture!!!

Since you have now reacted to some Seattle Indie Albums from the early 2000s with the Microphones or Unwound I feel like I have the perfect recommendation for you if you want to check out an underrated masterpiece in that field. The album is Songs About Leaving by Carissa's Wierd. Interesting for you to know is that Carissa's Wierd shows up on Spotify in the "Fans also like" section for Have A Nice Life, Giles Corey, The Microphones and Mount Eerie. Songs about Leaving is really melancholic and what is so special about it is the extremely beautiful instrumentation. I would absolutely love to see so a reaction to this masterpiece

I listen to this album when I go on night walks. There’s also an episode of the podcast“Life of the Record” where Phil goes into detail about how this album was made. It’s really interesting stuff. P.S / EDIT: The artists other than Phil that appear on this record are fellow local musicians from Phil’s area. Kyle Field played the role of “Big Black Death” and Karl Blau wrote and performed the song of the vultures. Kyle Field has released music under the name “Little Wings” for decades. His song, “Fall Flood” inspired the melody for “Solar System” on this album. On that note, there’s a nice lil video of him and Phil playing “Solar System” together that you can find here on KZbin. It’s a great vibe. Karl Blau, to my knowledge, just releases music under his own name. He’s got a song called “Fallin Rain” that I really dig.

the other two dudes were Karl Blau, also from his home town and Kyle Field who records under the name Little Wings, both worth checking out in their own right.

recs: Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles (Sick sounding early 90s math/indie rock, awesome guitar tone) Cap'n Jazz - Shmap'n Shmazz (The goats of midwest emo... the originators... I don't gotta say anything else. The album is the first 12 tracks of the compilation that's on Spotify btw, but you should also check out the Take On Me cover that's directly after the album in the tracklist, it's awesome) Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (GORGEOUS unique sounding early 90s shoegaze, sounds like mbv, pavement, guided by voices with twee pop mixed in, so awesome, better than Loveless imo) Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (Unique folk-punk, early 80s college/alt rock, very catchy) Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque (Really catchy power pop, slightly shoegazey, same label as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, basically as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
