You might wish to amend the error at 22:58. Buchla systems are 4U. Blacet is 3U. Bugbrand is not 5U, Serge is 4U, etc.

Excellent intro to Buchla stuff! Buchla and Serge play together just fine, especially with un-quantized sequencers and other CV sources. A 257 and/or a mix-pro are helpful to scale voltages when necessary.

I wonder if what’s going on with the Dynamics Manager knob is similar to the initial gain setting on some Euro VCAs like the Intellijel Linux which gives you two controls; one that attenuated the incoming CV (from ENV for example) and the initial level which simply sets the minimum that the VCA will close to. Turning this up completely will open the VCA right up and the incoming CV will have no effect. 👍

There’s a user made ensemble for Reaktor called Cloudlab that does a decent job emulating a 200e. If you have Reaktor, it’s free.

it has no fm cv because their modules use linear fm so you don't mess with pitch

Eurorack is so digitally additive, and cross-medium (audio and midi interfaces) I think Buchla is ossified in elitist expensive gear. I love the Buchla artists but music to me has to be attainable as a system and Eurorack just about offers that whereas Buchla doesn't.
@benbowland5 жыл бұрын
I'd treat a Buchla as more of a thing to go to when you specifically want that experience or sound, whereas Eurorack can do everything and works great as a general tool. I dont' necessarily think it's elitist, but rather a very specific experience that people seek to attain.
@bauhnguefyische6674 жыл бұрын
@@karimbiri Agreed. The high end Moog gear is not cheap either. Then start building a useful euro rack and see how fast that burns up money on the better quality modules. You get what you pay for.
@KentBuchla3 жыл бұрын
Utterly underinformed nonsense; likely born from jealousy and lack of time on the instrument. The Buchla is not only one of the cornerstones of the founding of Eurorack but also, via the 200e, remains beyond what Eurorack can provide to the live performer. I own Euro and Buchla 200e. The former is largely a collection of modules and circuits whilst Buchla is designed as a cohesive instrument. Few Eurorack manufacturers approach the market from a performer-centric standpoint. IME does. MakeNoise (being VERY inspired by Don Buchla at their outset) largely approach their designs as a system. Incidentally, the Buchla 225e is a MIDI translator that provides perfect tuning over the i2c buss without the use of any cabling. Again, far beyond what Euro can do. It also offers 12 MIDI Controller to CV outputs that can also act as MIDI clock dividers. All blue knob positions and all switches can be stored and recalled. To this day, there are no modules in any formats that do what the 223e, 225e, 227e,250e, and many other modules do.

@@KentBuchla Maybe I'm wrong but my impression is Buchla has a £5k entry point.
@methyod2 жыл бұрын
I think that just looking at Buchla as "gear" is never going to justify the price tag. It's only worth it if you value it for itself and what it represents; as an art piece in and of itself, an object of physical beauty, a connection to a culture, time, and place. It's a luxury item and I doubt most people who own one would deny it. However, it takes a certain lack of self awareness to call Eurorack "attainable" immediately after attacking Buchla for being elitist. Any Euro setup in the same ballpark of flexibility as a 200e setup is going to be thousands of dollars. There is nothing populist or attainable about Eurorack.
