My favorite cathedral in the whole city. I remember John well. Cheers!

It's not a cathedral; it's an Episcopal church. New York's Episcopal Cathedral is St. John, the Divine.

I attended the dedication recital on October 5. The sound of the new instrument does indeed reach to the rear of the church, unlike prior instruments. It is thunderous, without being overpowering. And oh, what beautifully voiced reeds, especially the "quieter" solo ones. Without a doubt, this new instrument is Dobson's Magnum Opus. It's tonal palette and presence in that space far surpasses that of its predecessor. Run, do not walk, to hear this marvelous addition to New York's organ scene.

Glad to hear that, I was not particularly fond of the old organ. I didn't hate it, but I found it rather, how shall I say....annoying at times. So, I'm curious: does the new organ sound reach the back of the church because of some treatment applied to the surface of the interior of the building or is the new organ EVEN LOUDER than the old organ?

@@larikipe940 I sang in concluding services of RSCM courses at St Thomas through the seventies and early eighties. The word at the time was that the parish, at Gerre Hancock's behest (may he rest in peace and rise in glory), applied a hard coating to the soft and porous limestone of the interior of the church to improve the acoustics. My young ear at the time thought they had succeeded, but I will say that I never heard the antiphonal organ used and, singing from the stalls, had never sat in the nave. If they have found a permanent solution good for them.

How can I find organ music on KZbin? Each I time I think I have found music, it turns out to be another lecture or demonstration.

I want to hear this thing really talk. I only hear samples during installation and demonstartion.

I hear that in fine the instrument has no real guts. This would be in harmony with this deracinated age in which principles and foundations are negotiable across the board.
