I'm late to the party, but I see you used 2x4s on face as a clamping caul. If you use one with a slight crook, on edge with the convex edge down, it will provide better clamping pressure across the top (especially in the middle).
@ToolShow3 жыл бұрын
You're not late! Good tips are forever bro. :) Thanks for the insight. That's good advice. I have plenty of "bad 2x4s" that would work well that way. We just got my Dad's 32 year old JET Jointer, so hopefully higher quality lumber is in our future, but for now... yeah. I have plenty of bowed 2x4s. lol

Hi, I have a question on the remark you make at 5.50, don't understand what you mean there. Hope you can and are willing to explain it in a bit more detail. In other words, why is it a problem the rails stick out to the left?

Johanigan, you and Mark both caught that right away! As I told him, I write and record my voiceovers after the project is done. And for some reason, I was just sure I used Titebond III. I even remember picking it up and thinking "This is WAY overkill.". I must have found the II, used it, and just forgot. :)

I see you had the same problem I had when I made a workbench for my Milwaukee saw. I took the plans from someone else but due to how the Milwaukee works with the fence rails I had to cut on the left and right. You realized you have to cut on the left. Well when I ran into the issue with the fence/rails, I was not liking that gap in the table. Have to live with that. But guess what, you may run into my 2nd issue with the fence. It was when I wanted to get the fence off and move it to another set of nuts. The gap is not deep enough so I have to lift the saw when I want to move the fence to another notch or move to the left of the blade. I know I can cut the gap deeper but man it looks stupid. Did you try moving your fence off the current fence notches?
@ToolShow4 жыл бұрын
YES! I did realize the fence removal issue in the middle of the build. I thought about cutting a notch somewhere, so I could slide the fence to that point, and then lift it off. But that means the slot will need to be somewhere in the middle of the table where I can reach both pegs (the 4" offset). BOOOO. Forget that noise. So I have an idea. I'm currently working on the support system for the saw. It's a rail at the back of the shelf that the saw frame slides into, and holds it in place. If I can instead use the left side, I could design a lever that when pressed, it would lift the saw 1" up on the right side, just enough for me to unclick the fence. But this is starting to get tricky. I'm gonna have to ask Izzy Swan to help me design something. If anyone can come up with a solution, he can. : ) Thanks so much for the chat Robert! I appreciate it! Would love to see your bench if you'd be willing to send us a pick on Instagram or email it to me at info at coptool dot com.

@@ToolShow Thanks for the quick reply. I really liked how to pointed out all the errors and sometimes lack of forward thinking. Kinda my MO some times and not by choice. ;-) I will send a photo. FYI, when i first ran into this issue, I was starting to search around on facebook groups asking some of the other wood workers about maybe just getting rid of the fence I have and putting on one by maybe Vega or Delta Biesemeyer. They were going to be 50 to 52 inch fences but when I saw the price of $300 to $499, I said forget it. Either way I have to fix the issue. I will send some photos of what I have now. I put the saw at the left corner of the bench running the 8 foot length way thinking I could use the section to the right of the saw for support. Izzy is the man to work out issues with. He can make cake out of sawdust. Love you two and the channel.

Warning to anyone planning on making this bench. The measurements on these plans are jacked up - Do not precut any wood based on the laid out materials portion of these plans. They are not the same dimensions as the actual put-together, ending product. For instance, the orange pieces are all laid out as 7' 4.5", but if you measure to upper orange pieces on the put-together model, they're 7'6". Also, one of the legs has a completely separate cut then all 5 of the others, and there are only 2 legs that have triple side cuts on the bottom, but there are 4 on the colored model. There are several other mistakes made in the sketchup plans. This is\was my first woodworking project....and it's kind of all falling apart because of mistakes in the sketchup plans.
@ToolShow3 жыл бұрын
Brandon, I sincerely apologize for the trouble the sketchup file caused you. The intent was for the user to pull dimensions from the "assembled model". The parts laid out on the floor were simply a reference to build a materials list. Not all of the parts were copied over, which is why you see a discrepancy in the length of the orange pieces. I don't have time to produce proper plans for this project, and I only posted my Sketchup file after so many people asked for it. Never crossed my mind they'd take measurements from the materials area. That's on me. Thanks for taking the time to post this, and I hope you overcome the mistakes and enjoy your bench!

Can you stop it with saying (gang). So annoying can we keep it normal. I do enjoy watching the show besides that part. I feel like everyone wants to use that so freely.
@ToolShow4 жыл бұрын
Is that a common thing? I didn't even realize I was saying it. Any idea why that word specifically bothers you so much? Got an alternative in mind? Thanks for watching Jacob, and for the feedback too!
@Jaydayallday4 жыл бұрын
Belts And Boxes yes it’s a really common thing and everyone wants to use that for everything now. And the origin it comes from does not represent anything good. Not saying you’re using it in a bad way it just bothers to watch tool reviews and show then to hear that it’s like you can never escape it. I’m sure you know VCG VINCE on you tube? Very cool gang is the meaning but it’s like a happy go lucky name so I don’t mind. But just that single word is just a bit much to hear all the time. So we have to remember the younger people watching channel and even kids who watch the channel that glorify that word and think it’s cool to say when they have no clue of lifestyle that is or represents. So do quick google search of (gang meaning). Alternatives not sure. Maybe crew. Do quick google search on (crew meaning) and I’m sure that seems a lot better. I’m definitely not trying to scold you at all. And not trying to put you down but once you do those searches I’m sure it will click. Other then that love the channel and reviews. And maybe this will spark others and channels to cut that word out of all of the hard working class that don’t represent that. Maybe even VCG would cut it off. It’s not fair for one and not all. and if not that’s fine to that’s just my thoughts on it.

@@jonathanharris969 no clown that’s not it. People get killed for saying dumb stuff like that. And it’s a tool review show not some immature kid show where your following the latest trending word. Look at how many shootings and killings every weekend here in Chicago has for no reason so it’s for people’s own good not to be saying things they have no idea about. It’s annoying to hear belts and boxes understood you obviously don’t since you want to respond a year so you must have to much time on your hand I see

The bench looks great Rob! Kinda looks like you used Titebond II as the bottle is blue. One small suggestion is to make a 1/4 inch or so 45 degree chamfer the edge behind the table saw. That way if the board does happen to bend down into the gap, the chamfer will ramp it back up.

Is that a universal track you used for cut the top with the Hart Circ. Saw?
@robertstetson40774 жыл бұрын
Okay if the table saws going to be stationary the whole time why have it cordless a corded going to give you more power, cost less you will not have to change the battery every 10 minutes.
@thetoolmat86324 жыл бұрын
Robert Stetson good point, but well I have no real argument, except if it's the only saw you got then that's it.. The shelf is adjustable somewhat so he can just do that if he gets a corded one. As for 10 minutes, that's not the case these days, the big batteries they recommend on these run and run...then if you install a smaller blade* (*do not attempt this, do at your own risk! It requires more setup and modification than just installing one) ---they really last. I will say once you get a non-corded saw, it is hard to not just use it as your main saw.
