It’s meant to divide the space between the space for the gods, and the outside world (going by the Internet and what I remember from asking a college professor, apologies if it’s not 100% accurate). 5:22 Oh yeah, that’s basically what a futakuchi-onna is! It’s a yokai that looks like a beautiful woman, but has a huge mouth on the back of her head. This yokai’s usually formed because of a woman’s starvation, literally growing a second mouth and hair tentacles to compensate. Usually it’s the wife of a miser, but I can see why they went with this yokai choice, super rad!

The painting of the samurai is actually supposed to be some legendary archer samurai who was born with one arm much smaller than the other. However, his disability worked in his advantage as an archer, because he was able to perform scary powerful and accurate shots that even the most skilled two handed archers couldn't dream of, something to do with being able to pull the arrow further back, as well as how his posture affected his aim.

To my Knowledge he'll just follow you no matter what, it's the easiest yokai to counter with the simplicity of politeness, just let him pass and if it's too dark, he'll ask for a light, hand him a lantern/phone/flashlight/lightsourceand he'll hobble on by, returning your Lightsource the morning after.

The story of how these yokai occur is usually the wife of a miser turning, but a woman who’s constantly starving and becomes mad with hunger and rage that she eats her own sister out of desperation… a little bit of a wendigo pathing, but it makes sense why she’s based off a futakuchi-onna; she was starving, probably heavily mentally ill, and then committed an unspeakable act.
