Yes it is very chipper and upbeat, it's the vocal and audio distortions and the story/lyricd that is dark and brings that depth to the song.
@ALLTHEDRUGSFORCREATIVITY Жыл бұрын
Personally, I feel like the song has more of a eerie feel then anything! Maybe it’s just because I know the lyrics but even listening to this version I felt like it was creepy in a sort of way- it’s the same energy as those weird like propaganda cartoon advertisements from the 80s like they seem so innocent and happy on the surface but it’s just so off putting when you know what they’re talking about.
@carimeslockdownedtree2654 Жыл бұрын
@kingdallasisdead Yeah I agree! Particularly the last part (from "see how the serfs" onwards). It has a nostalgic yet creepy sound to it. I'm obsessed with it. It's very eerie and yet cozy to me?? I don't know how to explain it.
@titusfortunus2916 Жыл бұрын
So actually, its not exactly chipper and upbeat, but its actually not morose either. See, the trumpet blare, the cymbals on 2 and 4, the rolling snares, they are commonly marching style. If you listen to the snare it even sounds like a... parade. A ROYAL. REGAL. PARADE. FOR A KING. and the lyrics? The lyrics about gods and kings and nobility and judges and powers... and serfs, peasants subjected to their rule. The song is a grandiose curtains-swing-wide red carpet affair, saying WELCOME TO THE WORST DAY OF YOUR LIFE, WHERE IT OFFICIALLY GOES DOWNHILL! KNEEL BEFORE YOUR NEW GODS!!
@titusfortunus2916 Жыл бұрын
To clarify, "all mine towers crumble down, the flowers gasping under rubble" towers oft seen for castles, the institution. "Here in my kingdom, i am your lord, i order you to cower and pray/prey!" More juxtaposition of nobility. Nuns commence incanting as the lightning strikes mine temples thus Electrifying mine chambers, wholly scorching out thine sovereignty So-so-so-so-so-so-so-so spiraling down thy majesty I beg of thee, have mercy on me. The entire song is about being subjected to institution of governing powers, from judges to religions to monarchies to doctors...

I was blown away by the fact that THE MIND ELECTRIC has a band arrangement. But, there were many things that bothered me. I noticed this because I happen to have a parent who teaches music. One thing I noticed was the lack of balance. The flutes seemed to over power the entire band at most of the song. A way to fix this is have them get really quite when they aren't the main melody. Its hard to hear the low woodwinds and brass when they have the main melody. At parts like 'see how the serves work the ground', let the low woodwinds and brass shine, and at 'see how the brain plays around', I think the saxes are the main melody for that part. Another thing that I noticed was the fact that not everyone is using dynamics. Again with criticizing the flutes, sorry, but they were playing loud when they should not be loud. I can also hear from some, like the trumpets and saxes, aren't pushing the air through as quick. It makes them sound drowned out and tired. I also noticed that the percussion slowed down a bit at points, but that's just the song. Speaking of the percussion and the rest of the band, it seems it isn't in line together. I also give a recommendation that while warming up, tune the instruments. If they are tuned correctly, it sounds better. Enough with the criticism, I want to say they did great. I could hear the right parts, and imagine the lyrics to the song with the band. My parent who also is a band teacher would be proud.

The song is from an album called Hawaii part II. The songs have an interconnected story that pretty much depends on how you interpret the lyrics, so they're all just theories of what the story of the album is about. The most popular theory is about a man that goes to Hawaii and fall in love with a girl there. They got together and become lovers, but suddenly the girl is murdered. It is left to interpretation if the man himself was the murderer (due to mental conditions) or was just framed for it. Eventually he goes to court and pleads insanity so he goes to an infirmary get electroshock therapy and gets insane. (Which is supposedly what this specific song on this video is about) He then escapes and tries to find his girlfriend (due to his insanity he forgot she is dead) but gets lost and die in the nature. Then they meet in the afterlife (or he goes to purgatory), up to interpretation.

Its impressive if you literally don't know the first thing about music. Its honestly shocking how idiots are impressed by anything they couldn't do in the next 2 minutes. No. This is a terrible arrangement, the recording is beyond the band's control, but most of all their technical ability to play together as an ensemble is tragic. I've been watching graduates for 30 years. And I've noticed in the last 12 of those years, there has been a serious decline in the quality of the graduating students performances. Its literally the episode of Spongebob "Band Geeks." Squidward: "If we play loud, then everyone will think we're good. Right?" Plankton shouting from the back: "CORRECT!"

This brings back memories of arranging Strawberry Fields forever for orchestra + choir in high school over a decade ago! Along with everyone else, I'm super glad this exists and thank you for bringing it to life! Don't worry about the performance quality, and don't get down on anybody who cared less or didn't meet your standards. Just keep creating, take advantage of opportunities around you, and spread positivity!

The only thing that they missed up was in the part (in lyrics) (in time it's 3:14) "See how the brain plays around", there is a little whistle that actually matches another song of them, which is Labyrinth. But the rest it's perfect
