Avid when the player tries to cross the mountains, they teleported back to the map because they pass out and they rescued by an Alpine villager that takes them back to the quest hub.

Maybe you could find the basic trial key from exploration, but the ominous key can only be obtained from quests. Maybe you could also buy keys from certain villagers in different regions of the map.

If you would like to make sure that players can't get out of the maps main area i think either teleport them back to spawn. OR this is just an idea if you want to make it custom, you should make your builders to build towers/outposts of some kind around the border mountains randomly and any time somebody gets out of bounds tp them to the closest outpost.

one problem with that is that it doesn't make sense for the light path. in the light path, the player is going against olm.

for a suggestion to keep the players in the borders of the world, perhaps you could just impart some horizontal velocity on to them using something like creepers (i've seen you use the technique before, but i don't know enough about command blocks to know if there's a better way to push stuff back)

Because the limits of the map are mountains, a coldness sistem that lowers the player's speed and jump height could immersively avoid players from escaping the confines

A snowstorm as they try to cross the mountains! Snow, “wind,” etc, pushing them back into the map. That could be a cool way to keep players within the border

You could always summon some sort of creature to attack a player that goes out of bounds, but maybe instead of dying when defeated by one, you pass out and wake up again on the inside of the mountain range. And keep up the great work Avid!

An idea for players who go out of bounds: maybe you could give them darkness and/or slowness or flash some particles or something; not to harm them but just as an indicator that they're not supposed to be there.

For the out of bounds travelers, you could build some outposts sprinkled around the borders with some npcs. They would give lore about how there's an unknown force outside the confines of the mountain ranges(it could be an environmental issue, a supernatural issue, both?) and the mountains kindof acts like a barrier. TL:DR make a phenomenon that progressively gets worse and the player teleports to the closest outpost after the worst thing happens. full description: When you go outside the ranges, first, it will immediately turn hazy. after a minute of being outside, you'll start seeing messages in chat or on screen, "This doesn't look right", "This might be dangerous". and they'll get hit by slowness 3 and blindness for 2 seconds then comes back every 15 seconds longer and it gets more urgent, "I have to return", "I need to go back", "this feels so wrong". and the effects becomes 4 seconds Even longer and the text starts getting angry "GO. BACK." now the effects are 10 seconds long. if the player still ignores it, they get nausia, slowness 10, blindness and they're forced prone for about 20 seconds. If it's possible to turn the entire screen black for 5 seconds, do that and remove it when they get teleported back to one of the outposts scattered across the mountain range(whichever's closest to the player). when they wake up, they'll have 5 minutes of slowness as reprecusion(if you want) and the npc there says something along the lines of "I saw you trying to go past the mountains. When too much time past, I figured you already passed out. These outposts were made to retrieve the people who are ignorant of the dangers, so you're quite lucky." Then he says the first dialogue. Makes it so there's a reason not to go out, but also adds a bit of potential future lore that ties the phenomenon happening and the rpg story together. Who knows, maybe you could get gear from the final boss and gain access to roam outside as a bonus.

here's an idea for keeping players in, if they are detected out of bounds in the chat it states "You feel a tugging in you're stomach" and the player is (safely with a featherfalling potion or something like that) flung off of the mountain.

another great vid! also to keep players in bounds i thought you could gradually add slowness, tp them slightly to make the camera shake. Then, when they get too far apply blindness, tp them to some location and tell them that the old one almost got them there

22:33 I like the idea that players get damaged. Maybe it could be like the void where the further you go the more damage you get, so that people wont just be able to bring tons of food there and survive out of bounds for a long time. You could make some sort of wasteland behind the mountains, (it could be a snowy mountain wasteland) , which would explain why you would get damaged there. You could also just build a huge invisible wall.

For keeping players inbounds, maybe you can just have them be pushed back from the edge, with a message in chat that plays only to them, that says something like: *A strong wind pushes you back*. Though that was fitting for the mountain, though anywhere else.. well you could come up with some other message that’s more relevant

Idea for MAKING the teleporting feature for exiting the map: at the edges of the map, make the highest coordinate one biome, and the other side (the barrier) a different biome. If the player has the first biome at the top, it will record the player's coordinates (efficient, because it'll only record coordinates if player is actually at the border). If the player has the second biome, then the game should spawn a marker, give that marker the coordinates of said player, then teleport them to the marker. You would have to make this border biome really big to prevent ender pearls getting out.
