I really like these guys and their message, they do tend to answer varied questions with rehearsed anecdotes though

I've been living out of a carry-on bag, owning nothing else in the world since hurricane Sandy (there as a volunteer, surrounded by thousands that had lost everything), haven't had cell service for 3 yrs, and don't even aspire to own anything more. I could live on min wage (I moved to México) now but still can earn $100+ per hour as a consultant. Minimalism can lead to being happy with nothing, which is a relatively perma-happy state that can easily end in an even more perma-happy inducing spiral into altruism. #Free :D

Advertisements are still ok. Just buy things you need and truly love. I'm a medium minimalist. And yes you can make a living as a writer. My husband is a screenwriter and he makes enough money for us to live on.

I like the message and agree with a lot of what they say but they need to slow down on the plugging - "watch our documentary, buy our book" - we get it.

Awesome talk. we need to have less, part of the hardship of doing that is rent. There needs to be a solution.

Accurate. I'd like to hear them explore new ideas or explore ideas differently, but these talks are probably always "an introductory to" and they probably use the format people are most receptive to.

The idea of paring down all your material possessions is all well and good but the more interesting is question is what you do next. I kind of wish the Minimalists would spend more time exploring that now rather than flogging a dead horse.

@@jameslarsen997 Yes, seams suspicious as Google is the opposite of minimalism, a real contradiction! Are they paid for this (any other related co. would be fine but Google?!) if so, sorry I can't support but if not and they just wanted to share the message then maybe. I used to love these guys in their humble beginning and the past few yrs (since LA) I started having a bad feeling on some podcasts with Josh cutting off guests and not letting them speak (Shelbizleee podcast is where I started noticing this) but he seams better now as the comments where really bad as well. I think Ryan will eventually pack up and go back to Montana the way he talks about LA, and you can tell he's holding back a bit on how he doesn't feel at home there. I think it's the beginning of the end for these two.

I like how these guys are minimalists and literally all over the internet. I guess "less is bad" and "more is good" only if you are a celebrity and not doing a shi**y corporate job. It's fun to be in the spotlight eventhough it may be 'overwhelming'. Whatever. Loved their Ted Talks but they have lost the shine of authenticity for me. And also it is really a non-issue. Minimalism evokes an empty semi-Buddhist nihilist feeling which just because Silicon Valley entrepreneurs like Leo Babuta et al. are getting in then suddenly rest of the fam must join on the trend. Are you ffin kidding me... These guys are the antonym of minimalists. They are using that tag to boost more productivity, growth and income. GTFO.....
@god5535

Basically according to them minimalism is a nebulous concept and term. Should I point out the irony in their movement they will object "oh oh but we are happy.... even though we are all over the internet... we are doing it MINDFULLY (another cringey buzzwordy term)"... So basically they have taken minimalism to mean something as "minimal" to "we don't care what we do if it adheres to spirit of minimalism as long as we get to do it". LOL!
