The practice is as old as image creation. Everyone of us has used reflectors.
The key and the gate opener to the system is obviously light. Could be the sun, but then, with no sun available, the best results can be reached with parallel light.
Our particular pride though is in the evolution of dedolight optical systems, which now culminate in the added parallel beam intensifier for all of our 21 different focusing dedolights.

I love the concept of Lightstream. A very contemporary way of lighting, especially, for lighting dynamic scenes, and in small or challenging spaces. In fact, I attended a workshop before. My question is why the shape of the reflectors are not circular? This is especially for the light pattern of The #1 and #2 plates. The light pattern is significantly unnatural (seeing a radiating spotlight in a rectangular light frame). With a circular plate, the reflected light falloff would look more natural (on shiny surfaces or in people's eyes) unless you mimic a window or so. At least, you can give people the choice of a circular or rectangular plate.

Maybe because a circular reflector would cost almost as much if not more to produce, store, and handle as a square reflector with the same diameter, and give you a smaller area to reflect light. If you want a circle could you stick some black card or cinefoil or something to it with a circular hole?

Many thanks for your interest and inquiry. I have been working on both of these systems and practices for a long time. I was held back by some missing parts which caused very serious delays in production. They are now supposedly on the way to us, and we can then finally put together all the components. Only afterwards can we document this in brochures, photographs, videos and we can calculate different content conglomerations. With all the present limitations, we keep our company working, but with reduced staff, and that also holds us up. I would think it will take between 4 and 8 weeks (June/July) until we will be able to not only show and demonstrate, but to deliver. Lightstream Lite is a system that is mainly geared to the solo-creator, a very small and very effective system to apply Lightstream benefits and to mount the devices in very interesting super lightweight manners. So this could be an integral part of a lighting kit with maybe one or maximum two of our focusing lights including the parallel beam intensifiers, which could fire up one reflector or a whole row of those and act like 4, 5 or up to 7 different light sources. This could be a very fast, very economical and especially a very ecological way of lighting. The same system should then also interface with the present Lightstream system, which is heavier, sturdier but takes also more effort and provides more weight because of the mounting accessories (do not get me wrong: it is still an advantage over anything that was ever used traditionally). Lightstream Tabletop is the transformation of the Lightstream lighting system to any kind of studio setup, be it food, cosmetics, products. There are also some videos done with components that will find their place in Lightstream Tabletop. You may find a haunted house movie that was your colleague Francois Aubry in Canada, which looks nice and gives some idea. Francois also made a bunch of other applications for cosmetics and perfume bottle lighting, which gives some first introduction to what the system may be able to do. By the way: Francois is a wonderful friend, ingenious special effects man who always introduces completely new ideas for unusual and very effective and very “doable” solutions. Thank you again for your interest. Dedo Weigert
