Happened to us two weeks ago on sim day. My friend who is still quite inexperianced mounted went Bang - click ! looked at me as I was loading , as he lowered the gun the second shell discarged and he nearly dropped the gun as he'd relaxed his hold ..

Has anyone actually seen a hangfire? In 50 years of shooting and including range master and instructor, I haven’t. Nor have I actually even heard of one. Not saying it can’t happen and great thing to be aware of but curious 👍🏼

When you open the gun should you point it away from your body and let the gun eject if fitted the cartridge ?

Good question!! When breaking the gun, It is always good practice to cover the action and catch your shells. At this point also, the barrels will be pointing towards the ground. Always keep it safe!!

Would there be any harm once followed your procedure to then reload and try re-fire the cartridge (in a safe in-the-air position) if not, what would be the reason?
