Damn. That was extremely helpful. I tried using these rules and it made navigating “Stella by Starlight” much clearer. It’s much easier to see 7th chords and extensions and connecting chords together. Helluva lesson. This seems like a great gateway to Pat Martino’s “Linear Expressions.”

Best explanation ive Ever heard on this subject. It's Exactly the way my brain looks at the fingerboard. I understand modes but trying to remember which is which and the notes it contains always left me blank when playing, but this just clicks!

I'm gonna try this! Thanks! The "blues dad pentatonic" vs. "minor pentatonic whole step above" was a great illustration.

Love all these videos! Is there any more content about playing fusion licks over major triads? Trying to play over some simpler rock songs but keep things interesting.

Yes on our Patreon there are a whole bunch of those. Also a whole video about playing over pop/rock progressions.

One of the later example solos had what sounded like unison licks. Are those what is referred to as 'false fingerings', and where they in the same pentatonic scale tones or did you add those in for extra flare? Excellent as always. -Matt

Really appreciate your playing, insights, and teaching wisdom! I'm a bit worried about your smile....One-sided smile and eye-lid and brow movements to me looks like facialis parese (paralysis of the facial nerve). (Had it twice myself) Have you seen a doctor? Immediately check into hospital ER if you haven't!

@@marbinmusic I was joking based on your going to Berklee video. That was so true. Back in the 70s I went to a hip community college for three terms of music. The only ones who benefited were people who were already great when they got there - I was not among them.

Do you give in person lessons? I’m not sure what part of the country you are in but it’s bound to be nicer there than it is in Anchorage, AK in mid winter. A winter vacation to a guitar boot camp would do wonders for my playing.

I understood this but it seems like alot of memorization to fit different patterns over different chords depending on the chord and sound your going for, especially when you lay on top of it knowing all the positions. Maybe this music thing just isnt for me, my brain doesnt work that way and memorizing all that then trying to recall what to play over what in an instant would ruin the flow of the music itself. I'll leave it to all the actually gifted people out there and just be an NPC shelf stocking loser.
@guitarplayer59326 ай бұрын
if i understood hes saying if youre playing over Am use Bm pentatonic scale, youre always playing the same 5 box patterns we all learned, just using a different pattern, i dont get the way hes teaching , its confusing i think of it as a modes not just playing bm over am
