Thank you so much for making this course! I’m not quite up to this video yet (working through from the start with a notes book) but just saw it pop up in my notifications. You all do a great job. Thank you. I have the full summa arriving in the mail this week and this course has been a great primer so far as I prepare to delve into it. My question is, do any of the Dominicans belonging to the institute have books? If so, where can I find them?

You might start with Fr. Thomas Joseph White's book: The Light of Christ. As concerns the missions of the Trinity, Fr. Dominic Legge wrote his dissertation on the subject: The Trinitarian Christology of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Wishing these truths were openly and more often preached! What a pity the concepts we make of salvation and what does it mean for oneself to be saved! I've found some light here 04:20 - 04:45 : "Jesus Christ came into the world so that we would be able to receive the GIFT of SALVATION, each of us individually, each of us having the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit dwell in our hearts. This is what Aquinas calls the invisible missions, because here there is no visible created effect by which a divine person is sent, but there is an invisible effect...." Emmanuel! Halleluja! @Thomistic Institute I have a question. At 0:04, the diagram shows a spiration from the Son, and a spiration from the Father, that are"spirating" the Holy Spirit. I know Thomistic Institute knows that in Catholic doctrine, the Holy Spirit proceeds from Father and Son by one spiration and not by two spirations - but I think the diagram's mild trickiness is illustrative of that fact that: What it means for HS to spirate from F and S by one spiration is confusing. So, my question is: What does it mean to say that the HS proceeds from both F and S by (but one and only) one spiration?
@ThomisticInstitute4 жыл бұрын
To say that the Spirit originates from Father and Son by one spiration is to say that the Father and Son act as one principle in the breathing forth of the Holy Spirit. So, it's not merely the Father and Son together breathes forth the Spirit or that the Father breathes forth the Spirit through the Son, but that the Father and Son originate the Holy Spirit as a single principle.
@claymcdermott7184 жыл бұрын
@@ThomisticInstitute Thank you so much for the reply. I cannot tell you how happy I am that you make these things and then answer all these questions. I guess my follow-up is: Isn't the Holy Spirit of one principle with the Father and Son? This makes it sound almost as though there are two principles in the Godhead, the "F+S" and the "S."
@ThomisticInstitute4 жыл бұрын
@@claymcdermott718 The Holy Spirit is one principle with the Father ad extra . . . so in acts like creation, redemption, and sanctification (those that concern creation) the Triune God asks as one principle. But, in matters that concern the distinction of Persons (the Trinitarian processions and relations) there is distinction of principle based upon origin. The Father is God from no one. The Son is God from the Father. The Holy Spirit is God from Father and Son. To speak of principles in this way is a matter of identifying the distinct origins of the Persons from which arise relations (paternity, filiation, common spiration, and procession). The Persons of the Holy Trinity, then, are just God subsisting as these relations. The Father is subsisting paternity. The Son is subsisting filiation. The Spirit is subsisting procession. The two videos that precede this might be helpful in this regard: 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIDadHimpbh_gqs 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/inrUp4Bohcijf5Y

This is wonderful episode, but if I may ask; how do the holy persons reside in the human soul if God is omnipresent? If God is everywhere then how does the soul receive the persons in grace? Is it simply a different presence than before?
@ThomisticInstitute4 жыл бұрын
That's exactly the case. St. Thomas describes in Ia Q. 8 (aquinas101.thomisticinstitute.org/st-ia-q-8#FPQ8OUTP1) that God is present to all creation by essence, presence, and power. But, in the rational creatures (specifically in the just), he is also present by grace as in a temple. So, this is to say that he is present insofar as the rational creature can have God as both the object of his knowing and loving, and beyond this, that he can know and love with God's own knowledge and love of himself. This is just another way of saying that the image of God in us can be perfected in grace unto glory.

Shalom / Salam / Selamat / MGBWY , MTBWY and MTBWYAF. HOLY SPIRIT / SEMANGAT SUCI / YANG ESA Mark 12:29 "The most important one" answered Jesus, "Is this : 'Hear, O Israel : The Lord our God , the Lord is One (*not 3/not Trinity)." ...... (*John 1:29 / Nabi Yahya si Pembabt iz 1:29 / Yohanes 1:29 "Lihatlah Anak Biri-biri Allah (Tuhan / God = *De wa),......") ...... (*The Comfort / *Lembut....."Bila dia datang.....") ......

This comments just proves that you don’t understand the trinity . Christian’s doesn’t claim that they have 3 gods . We believe in one God which is revealed in the father the son and the Holy Spirit . They all share the same nature which makes them one God and not 3 Gods

TRINITY The Christians are worshipping Spiritual God unlike other religions who worship God having physical body parts such as eyes, hands, feet etc. , and their God can change its shape. Moreover by touching or kissing or worshipping precious stones their sins would be forgiven, as it is believed to be the right hand of God. Such concepts or belief are not in Christianity. Trinity is nothing but a theological concept whose components are in the Bible. It is based on the scripture Mathew 28:19, which commands all Christians to make disciples of and BAPTISE them in the name of the “Father, Son and the Holy Spirit”. All three are divine spirits existing as a combined single spirit in heaven, ie. God (Father) is in “SPRIT” [John 4:24], Lord (Son of God - Jesus) is in “SPIRIT” [2Corinthians 3:17-18] and Holy Spirit is in “SPIRIT”, which combined together as a single spirit (Monotheistic) exists in heaven. For Lord Jesus said “Father and I are one” (John10:30). That invisible Monotheistic spirit cannot be seen by naked eye. And the single spirit in heaven transmits on earth God’s Spirit”, “Lord’s Spirit” and “Holy Spirit” on Christians, and which dwell or living in them. [Ref: 1) Corinthians 3:16, 2) Timothy 1:14, 3) Romans 8:9, 4) Galatians 4:6 etc.] When Christians praise and worship God by clapping hands and singing songs in our Churches that spirit will cover and shake true Christians, who can really feel its presence.
