Allen and Roy are down to earth guys, not uppity and arrogant like some are. They really gave the Mopar guys something to be proud of.

Mr. Johnson is the reason why I build Gen 3 Hemi's today. The work he did on the ProStock circuit is second to none. Thank you guys for providing this interview. He is one of my all time favorite Engine Builders and Crew Chiefs.

I first went to a dragstrip in 1965 with my sister and her drag racing husband. So, I saw Pro Stock from the beginning. It was so nice having all four manufactures in the class. Now it is all Camaros and not nearly as fun to watch. Even the Mustangs run by the Quadra brothers not sure of the spelling, but their Mustangs are Camaro's under the skin. I was so disappointed when I found that out. I always pulled for Allen Johnson when he was running. Many say NHRA legislated those Hemi's out of the sport.

Very cool!
@richardlincoln84385 ай бұрын
Well Scrambler, NASCAR regulated the HEMI engines out of the sport in the name of " equity " instead of making the other manufacturers " build a better mousetrap ". It wouldn't be a surprise if NHRA did the same thing.

Bob's Boss 429s forced GM to develop the DRCE and THAT changed pro stock forever. The end of actual pro STOCK.
@rickh6335 ай бұрын
Agreed, They cater to GM as usual when they allowed GM to develop an engine that was too far removed from the original design. FYI RM cheated to steal the PS championships from BG with illegal solid cylinder heads.

And WJ and KJ were ready! But, drag racing is a sport, and dominant teams eventually cause fans to lose interest, bcuz they know what to expect. I disliked the DSR years for that very reason. For me, I loved when Grumpy beat Sox & Martin, then Lee Shepherd of RMS, then WJ. Guess I'm a bowtie guy. It was/is a very popular powerplant. To allow hemis to dominate, the fan base would likely dwindle....IMHO
@dsgp78354 ай бұрын
Watch the crowd get up and head for the shade and concessions when the Pro Camaros fire up, boring. When Ford, GM and Chrysler were competing equally Pro Stock was never more exciting. The Coyote Mustangs dominate Factory Stock to NHRA's dismay so they come up with Factory X for GM to dominate, shame.

Screaming at the screen. When they won or lost. We watched them in the pits in Indy change their valve springs and we walked in over the barriers acted like we were w the team(sorry) and dad looked at me and said they going to pick up 4 hundredths and damn it they did R.I.P hemi Gus.
