the guy shows the world that even if you have a somewhat crippling mental illness issue like social anxiety (and it can be quite crippling depending on how severe it is), you can still have the confidence and the winning spirit to become a champ. Diaz isn't unintelligent at all. He just seems to get a bit flustered when all the camera's are in his face...which really is understandable.

The beginning is fucking hilarious, that huge silence and his body language. He's so in his own mind but seems to have it kinda worked out. He's obviously socially anxious and comes from a background that requires you to act tough, not be a sissy etc. - which only feeds into the social anxiety narrative. Social anxiety is basically intrusive thoughts forming while you try to think of what to say, so you have to put effort into ignoring those thoughts as well as picking the right thing to say - you can see the buffer time when it happens. Also - surely he has some CTE going on at this point, I really hope not but it seems silly to think there wouldn't be some level of brain damage (not necessarily that it will impact his life terribly, maybe just some memory loss)

Nick is by far one of my favorite fighters. But this is the problem with hero worship... we put people on pedastals. We expect them to be flawless and have our own opinions of how we think every component of their character or personality needs to be. That's not fair and its stupid. Nick is a great fighter. Why do people have to get down on him for not being an Ali or Sonnen or McGregor behind the mike? Why do people get down on him for having a temper and emotion against his opponents? That's just so douchey. The guy is a *real* guy, who just happens to have the balls to get in a cage and throw hands, and he does it very well. He's got flaws, but he's a good dude, that has a lot of character, loyalty, honor, etc. Sure, admire fighters for what they can do, but stop with the fucking unfair hero worship of these fighters and realize they are real people and many of them just want to be treated as such.

But I struggle when it comes to small talk, like when someone says hello and how are you I struggle with that at times. I also struggle when it comes to public speaking.
