After I made the video, I found an even earlier 1827 drawing of a Mixed cut from John Mawe on page 8: books.google.co.th/books?id=t1fMATcBgTcC&pg=PP25&lpg=PP25&dq=john+mawe+gimp+peg&source=bl&ots=msJebQi5pi&sig=ACfU3U3uQQtcQnAUV_yz3-ls1udTspRKuQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiRiPSi89zuAhWVzTgGHZuiDTgQ6AEwAXoECAMQAg#v=onepage&q=john%20mawe%20gimp%20peg&f=false

Most of the stones in my collection are mixed cut but I never fully understood why so popular. This video was very educational.

Hi Justin, Thanks for the video, this is very interesting. I just bought my first machine and I cannot wait to start experimenting with all these different cuts.

Thanks for expanding & explaining the mixed cut. Very well done ... I'll have to look into where I can find the instructions needed to get started. Like the way you take and explain faceting methods, history and make it so interesting. Would never of really thought or take my thinking out of the box. Thanks for the video & sharing. :)

This has enlightened me as to why I see so many emeralds with brilliant above girdle and step below. I am new to gems and wondered in my ignorance if the cutter was unaccomplished or lazy; now I know it is because the gemcutter knows more than me. Duh.

Could you tell the best bottom angels for step cut in sphires plz ☺️☺️☺️
@coreymerrill32573 жыл бұрын
I definatly needed this video ... i was misunderstanding stepped cuts . So emerald cuts just don't speak to me ,unless on the right type of stone...type 3 if I am learning correctly. Heavily included. Maybe an experiment will have to be done...

What book would you recommend for faceting if you were to buy only one. Your library is awesome also wicked handpiece collection thanks for sharing
@JustinKPrim3 жыл бұрын
Definitely Tom Herbst’s book Amateur Faceting Vol 1. It’s the only modern book worth mentioning.

The Mixed Cut is awesome, but any chance you’ll research the history of the Paper Cut?
@JustinKPrim2 жыл бұрын
It all started back in China, 1000 years ago 🤣😂🤣

Great content. Do you offer your services to the US public, or is your content only for educational purposes? I just stumbled across your channel...

Where does the Portuguese cut sit in this scheme. Portuguese is one of my favorite....
@JustinKPrim3 жыл бұрын
The Portuguese cut arrives in the early 1900s and definitely deserves a video of its own.

I think it just takes KZbin a few hours to make the subtitles because now I check again and you can auto translate into any language.
