I was in Glasgow Central station with my mother, waiting to catch the Blue Train as they were called, I must've been about 5 at the time. But, in the next platform stood a steam hauled train. Little boys logic, I ran to the locomotive and shouted 'I want to go on this train, it's a better train'. The driver and fireman were killing themselves laughing as my mother dragged me onto the 303! It must have been around 1965.

I still have my copy of the commemorative book issued by BR Scottish Region (as it was then) in 1960, for the Glasgow electrification. They were rightly proud of it.

What a fantastic video THANK YOU!!!!! I miss the original old blue 303's of the 70's & 80's with the open cab views & square lightbulbs. They just don't make trains like this anymore.

Amazing footage! Saw Newton station of old as train was approaching. The inside of the train was spectacular. Brought back childhood memories being on this train in the 70's

Wonderful. Sorry to use a cliche but this did bring a tear to the eye. Haven't seen such excellent footage of an unrefurbished 303 anywhere before. Historic video.

Loved the 303's and often watched them at Springburn station Circa 64/5. They used be used to connect to the Cumbernauld train usually class 101 or 107's I think I loved going to Milngavie on them if I had the money or skip on as I did on a few occasions. They were really ahead of their time and apart from the few problems they had at the beginning gave excellent service until their withdrawal.

That’s a blast from the past . Used to catch them from Paisley to Glasgow . Great trains with a view up front . Such a shame that the train wasn’t preserved

Only missing the curved front windows! I remember it was returned to the original condition bt apprentices only to be vandalised a short time later! It would have been a great exhibit for the SRPS in Bo'ness!

Wish a second 303 was preserved too so it could be restored back into its original livery and old interior. Oh well too late. Anyone fancy starting up a new trust and build a new 303 from scratch?

Might I suggest the current 303 restoration at Sumerlee? Original blue and original interior!

Fantastic! One of these 303 units is preserved. I wonder if there is any chance of it ever running again?

Not on its own power. It still runs but it’s pushed by a diesel loco on the Bo’ness and Kineill Railway. I’m sure if someone was willing to spend money on it coz it looks pretty worn down to restore it to its former glory, and safety checked the pantograph it could run on its own again.
