Thanks for the comment mate yeah I can absolutely see that. The hardware is absolutely capable.. to me there just seems to be too much pre impact video. That's just my theory though I could be completely wrong in this. I'm sure Rapsodo are working on a fix 🤞🤞 they did have it working great a few firmwares ago.

My standard reply in the facebook group is "gotta pop it up into the air" when chipping with MLM2Pro. Short bump and runs simply do not read reliably, need to scoop it the air with a more lofted chip and the reads are far more reliable.

Yes for sure... I checked my video from the last big test I did when they fixed chipping and it certainly used to be a LOT better a few updates ago.

The chipping is what made me return my MLM2Pro. I could deal with it myself but it was so frustrating when I’d play with friends and family and we’d have misreads. To compensate, you’d have to chip it too far because it reads longer chips better. So we’d be chipping over the green completely, then from the other side we’d chip it over the green the other way to land on the original spot. 😂 When you’re introducing sim golf to people who haven’t tried it and are used to real golf, it makes a bad first impression on them. Once I got a different launch monitor I had to convince them to give it another try.
@JLagGOLF5 ай бұрын
Yeah I completely understand that mate.. it's such a shame they had it fixed a while back! I was very happy with it.... It seems to have really dropped off. I really think it's just a camera sync issue and then the unit just doesn't have enough data to produce the shot.

@JjJj-yw1eu5 ай бұрын
Just for testing, I wonder if elevating the unit and angling it slightly down would yield the same results? This almost seems like they should change its code so that anything under 8 yards it will rely mostly on radar and if it has to, omit spin.

Have you tried it without that annoying spotlight? Maybe its confusing the auto focus by dropping out of the light mid flight?
@cronas125 ай бұрын
My guess is it is something to do with the club speed. I have noticed that the video clip is registering more of the club movement and not so muc of the ball. Maybe you could see if there is a certain club speed where it doesn't register using one of your other monitors. All the shots that registered seemed to be over 11mph

I am still having trouble with distance been emaiing them back and forth and coming up with nothing. If i shot it 20 to 40 yrds off. On my pw to 5 iron bthere is on 30 to 40 yrd difference. I have someone else hit and it reads his within 5 yrds of his actual distance off his clubs, it reads his 5 iron at 180 yrds. When we go golf on we hit similar yrds with same clubs. That's what I was thinking, too. For short chips, it seems like it works similar to the R10 which does not read short low chips.
@JLagGOLF5 ай бұрын
Yeah I totally get this and understand that.. For me personally, when I did all my testing On the previous firmware version, it seemed to work fantastic and having the camera there should eliminate some of the need for the radar to read the ball.. It is using the camera and the radar for ball detection and chipping detection. What's interesting is right now the r10 is performing way better at chipping for me and that's just a radar unit... I'm sure they'll get it fixed again. I think it might just be the camera window for me. It's looking a bit too early and missing a lot of data that it should be getting off the ball
@peekps5 ай бұрын
Thanks, Joe. If it were just the failures to read, I could live with the Rapsodo. But the three things driving me away from continuing to play GS Pro with the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro are way out of line spins on short chip or pitch shots 11-12, 000 spin on a 13 yard carry shot and 300 yard plus pitches when practicing 25-35 yard pitches in GSPRO. These happen when I supinate my left wrist closing the club face. When you playing a scored round, these two failures make the unit unusable. The third is really bad customer support. I'm using RPT balls, Claire's leveler, and my ball is within the white box. I also have the latest firmware version for the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro and the latest Springbok connector.
@JLagGOLF5 ай бұрын
Wow yeah those misreads would get really frustrating.. I just wonder if the misreads I had as well were from the actual unit itself or from the connector just not picking it up correctly. I would like to think being directly Bluetooth to the computer it's the device reading it incorrectly. But is it due to a worn ball? I'm not sure.. I still think for the price you can't beat this device but it definitely makes the scored rounds a little frustrating..

does the ball have to hit the impact screen for it to measure?
@JLagGOLF5 ай бұрын
No it should be able to pick up shots that go shorter than 9ft. A few firmwares ago in my testing it could read them down to 6ft carry and that was bump and run shots as well. It's a little bit off at the moment but I'm sure Rapsodo are working on a fix 🤞

I feel like if I slow my back swing down and almost give the camera more time to register the ball before my downswing and impact then it reads better. Also for some reason when I finish my follow thru and kind of hold my final position with the club head out front. It’s definitely weird and I don’t want to change my swing to suite the device.

I have some questions about how you have your rapsodo set up. Been playing with my setup and I'm trying to determine what distances I should have everything set up to. (Unfortunately I have to tear down and set up every time I use the unit). How far from your screen are you? How far behind you is the rapsodo? Do you have the rapsodo sitting directly on the ground or is it up on something? Thanks for the input and the video! Also I'm curious if it may be the low lighting of your setup that could cause some of these intermittent issues? I've been using my rapsodo strictly hitting into an outdoor net setup I have going across my car patio. About the only time I see issues like this is when I'm hitting later in the evening and it's getting dark outside. I actually have more issues with it reading high club head speed hits than slower ones. It seems every time I get a solid high speed driver shot it doesnt know what to do with it. Again thanks for the video and I feel the pain! I hate it when the unit doesnt read a shot (always seems to be the good ones that it misses lol ...never the bad ones ...)

Thank you for testing Joe! You tell it like it is! 😉 I have not used my MLM2Pro since the golf season started (it’s short here in Canada so you have to get your rounds in quick!😂) This motivated me to do a quick test myself because chipping was perfect for me when I last left my garage. For info: App 2.10.8 FW 3.8.20 I hit into a canvas and project to a tv in front of me. My ball sits 8’ from LM I have about 12’ to the canvas. I used a Prov1 w/ ball dots. I used a 60 LW I tested with both GSpro and Rapsodo target range like you. Results: No issues, same as I had last left it, I’m happy to say! Even chips less than 2yd (9 mph ball speed) registered. I checked and the ball was not even in the alignment window… it was above it. I the repositioned the LM so the ball was in the middle of the box and had no issues either. When I checked the impact vision, the club would hit the ball by the time it reached a 1/4 of the total capture. This left plenty of ball tracking time, which I estimated was about 1.5 revolutions… That I believe is the key but I have no idea why some get less ball capture… or why it could vary from one day to the next??? I feel fortunate and grateful because I bought mine some time ago so I did struggle with connectivity problems and bad chipping!!! Now with Springbok’s connector, playing GSpro is a breeze! I’m really sorry for those struggling! I wish I could have figured something out during testing… then again I don’t believe that one should have to resort to “witchcraft” to have this work!? 😉
@JLagGOLF5 ай бұрын
Thanks for this very thorough response mate! That's really interesting to hear your videos capture started 1/4 in.. mine was significantly later than that. Now it's got me thinking about swing speed and if a slower swing is more desirable for the unit? I'm going to have to do more testing on this! Also I would LOVE to play some courses in Canada! There are some incredible ones there.. one day.. I'll tie it in with a TXG visit lol

I just recently got an MLM2pro and have only had this latest firmware. I tried a few more things to solve my chipping issues: I added carpet to cover up all the garage concrete from the mlm's view I raised the mlm unit up to my mat hitting height, and tried even a little higher too I hit shots closer and further away from the mlm's "optimum distance" I tried toe down chips with a 60, i tried regular chips with a 60, i tried pitch and runs with a 7/8 I tried with gspro connecting with springbok's latest BT connector, and I tried with the rapsodo software on the new target range. none of these seem to make any difference. 8/10 no reads... 2/10 really wild reads with 80-100 mph ball speed and shots that run across the ground.

Do you suppose the ball position at rest can be an issue? What I mean is if more dots are visible at the "top" of the ball while the club is approaching the ball. Perhaps if you viewed the impact camera when shots are captured versus when they are not. I think I noticed there was a lot of white showing on the ball when the club was approaching the ball. Good luck, thanks. Ray

Would you go back to the R10 or would you wait it out for another update?
@JLagGOLF4 ай бұрын
The r10 is still a fantastic unit and a really good starting unit if you can find one second hand for cheap. The only real issue with the unit is the spin axis... And this is down to a hardware limitation. It cannot be fixed with RCT balls. It cannot be fixed with anything software related. It is a hardware issue and it's because the unit can't tell where on the face you hit the ball so it can't take gear effect into account. I've heard rumours of Garmin coming out with a new launch monitor, but no idea if they're true and no idea when.. I would have to guess that if they were going to do it it would be at the PGA show which is in January next year. I would personally get the MLM 2 Pro if I was going to buy either of them right now.. That's just due to the data being really good with it. There are still people that have issues though with connection and other things. I don't have any issues anymore. The only issue I have with it is chipping. The chipping could be a lot better.

If you're a person that wants the MLM2PRO for more "full swing" types of practice (omitting chipping altogether), does it still work OK? I could see myself buying this thing, primarily for range-type work (not for simulated rounds, but the simulated driving range). I have a friend who has one, and the combine and driving range looked really awesome and seemed fairly accurate to me.

@@JLagGOLF thanks - i've just about decided that with all the different lies and conditions required to properly practice chipping, i've actually cut back on even attempting much practice at it. I think if you get the basics down you'll be fine, but to really take it to the next level you've just about got to have access to facilities that offer all sorts of different lies and grass types. Not to mention time. If you had all 3 of those factors, i think just about anybody could be a world-class chipper. But those aspects are hard to get for most normal folks.

Chipping was one of the many reasons why I jumped ship from MLM2Pro to a GC2. I don't want to change my swing to hit a ball in a way that might or might not help a launch monitor pickup a shot. GC2 gets them all and has native putting. Plus no subscription and no fear of a firmware update ruining the performance.
