I am a fan of the old military gear, like the web belt, holsters, helmet, Marine camouflage clothing and such, I am a fan of modern items such as MREs, knives, and tarps and tents. A great video as always Corporal Kelly, thank you again.

Hey, anything to stop keeping Miss Alice from kicking your ass, is always a good thing! Then again, this is why I switched to British PLCE... I'd use SADF Pattern 83, but it's kinda difficult to wear a plate carrier with it.

I have the LC-2 Y harness with the web belt. I attached a butt pack and two large magazine pouches for storage. I like to take it out on my hikes, and I feel its very minimalist when I take it out with me. Your system is great, thanks for sharing!

Thank you for a clear update on how you use your gear. I am about to start and experiment on my newly purchased gear both second hand X military LC2 and Helicon based Y Harness - however the Black Hawk Gear seem interesting also - might try tis at some point in the future. So once gain thank you for the alternative way to carry loads at he waste rather than a back pack all the time, this will help my back and shoulders.

thanks corporal, I just saw this updated video and I have watched the original video several times. after seeing your original video I searched for, located and bought (on-line) all of the gear just as you have (all the same gear and rigged it just exactly the same way as you have done). I've used the rig several times in the field too and I love the rig set-up! before seeing your original video I didn't know about the gear or the rig set-up, but i'll tell you something.....for me this set-up (your same set-up) is exactly the rig for me. as I said, "I love it"! dividing your gear up and supporting it by suspenders and belt (with the fat belt pad)...then using a med to small pack.... that's the way to go for me! many times easier to carry the gear and you carry it comfortably, too. everything is in the right place and supported very well! I love it! so, your sharing and efforts are positively noticed and appreciated by me! many many thanks my friend!!!!!

Great vid. A friend of mine gave me a set of really early canvas ALICE gear and it's amazing how complex the made it. The 20 round mag pouches have goofy straps on them with hooks that appear intended to [maybe] hook onto the canvas H suspenders. Rides lousy. The later stuff you've shown here with your mods looks very comfortable.

I started out with an LC-2 harness system loaded up for hiking and camping. I ran an original GI belt/butt pack/Canteen pouch/Y-harness for years. In fact I still have it hanging in my closet. As age has started nipping at my heels, I've switched to a wide padded belt as well. The old LC-2 belt just doesn't distribute the weight as well. I'm currently using a Blackhawk padded patrol belt, run through a Maxpedition Sabercat Versipack(I removed the original waist strap), and 2 MOLLE canteen pouches. It's supported by a "Condor" H-harness. The MOLLE on the back of the harness can be used to attach an additional small pack if needed. I will likely never get rid of my old LC-2 system because it is incredibly durable, but for about $250 I've got a system that carries the weight much better and is definitely more adaptable.

Hi, Corporal Kelly, I just stumbled upon your channel and upon this video. Coincidentally I also have a civilian version of a similar set up evolved over the years for light hiking. It's based on the Deuter Hip Pack II, to which I added a set H-suspenders. Great minds think alike...LOL.!

nice mods. I usually frown on ALICE clips because they tend to not want to open as they get older but in this case, they are good to go to save some coin. a field dressing pouch would be a good addition for those wanting important small gear(compass, signal mirror, etc.) quickly accessible.

Kevin Moore - Those field dressing pouches are handy. I have to be sure I really need another pouch before I add one on, because a ounce on the shelf weighs a pound on the trail. A touch of silicone grease will keep Alice clips from binding up. As much as I respect Alice clips for their bomb proof nature they weigh the most of all the fastening options. I braided up two lengths of para cord in cobra stitch pattern to and used them to attach a Maxpedition 10x4 pouch to a Molle system. It worked really well, but the cobra braiding took too much time. Strong zip ties, used in pairs or more are a good option for a semi-permanent system. They don't weigh much, the cost is right and they are easy to R&R.

As a female I can tell you we do much better with the weight distributed primarily around the pelvis as opposed to shoulders. and...sort of related, what do you think of adapting the hidden woodsmen haversack to a butt and/or chest pack? doable? worth it?

yes and I agree. In my marine corps days I watched chicks squat 200-250lbs like it was nothing, and YES hidden woodsmen haversack would be cool like that. Thanks for watching

Nice Survival Belt if you do not want to carry a full Day Pack... Am using my old (but looks new) SOE EDC Belt w/Cobra Belt Buckle for my Survival Belt. And will add soon the smaller Maxpedition Water Bottle Pouch and a Pistol Magazine Pouch to carry Pepper Spray/Bear Spray and spare batteries... Just added the Maxpedition Trauma Kit w/Umbrella Moral Patch and have the SOG Seal Strike Knife w/Tactical Sheath, Leatherman Raptor and the MUT EOD, TQ/Touniquet Pouch and the most important item the Dump Pouch so the zombies will not follow ! For very short Day Hikes and to give the shoulders a rest... tjl

I had forgotten using tape to secure the keepers but we Auld Marines also taped the slider clips. They will work themselves open, especially when new. Semper Fi.

I hate that they came out with the padded belt lining,yes I have one,but its an admission that we want the padding.(I remember thinking that its for the weak but it makes it wayyy more comfortable).Plus I think it adds a small amount of bouyancy to a bunch of weight if you go in water over wading depth.
