I remember them appearing on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" around this time.

I believe it was the same week of this album's release.

I like the album but I also like the other '69 album "Instant Replay". I guess I prefer the later Monkees recordings.

One of the great things about their catalog is that there is so much variety.

Not their best work by any means, but an interesting curiosity in their catalogue! The whole enterprise was more or less on its last legs by this point, becoming less and less cohesive, but from that comes some especially idiosyncratic tracks highlighting the disparate sensibilities of each member. It really doesn't work as a whole, but there's some solid tunes in there, as you mention. Ironic that possibly their most obscure record includes unanimously one of their best songs! Listen To The Band is an all-timer. As for French Song and that film clip...All I can say is: very bizarre indeed! Enjoyed the video and also loved seeing that clip of them and Bugs Bunny for the first time. Such a fun rare gem to have included here.

Great insight. What is funny is that almost all of this album made it on to Saturday mornings.

Take the tracks from the Rhino Deluxe boxes and make your own "Monkees Present". I made a double album CD with Band, Davey, Mike and Mickey "sides"- Really each great Monkees Album can be improved via this methodology. Each one stands up even stronger to other output by other bands of the day.

There were a lot of quality tracks still in the vault, you could make quite a Double album

@ Yes sir. I enjoy the music and playing the material in this manner. Bonus that Ladies Aid Society is nowhere to be found on my CDr “Present” reimagining and playlist.
