very few artists could pull this off; Mickey is such a gifted singer, and his ingenious timing, optimism, and eternal cuteness enables him to sing the sometimes bizarre and avant-garde lyrics, which are not as simple nor as simplistic as they seem. Nez and Pete sound fantastic on harmonies, and I'm not sure which guitar Mike is playing. It's a mini-masterpiece and a hit. This is nothing short of a dream come true: the 3 Monkees together and rocking in 2016.

WOW! This really shows what an incredibly talented songwriter Rivers Cuomo truly is. The Monkees haven't sounded like this since their glory days in the 60's. It's just so sad that Davy Jones is gone, this song sounds like it was made for his vocals.

Before I got into modern music, I took a long trip through 60's rock and the Monkees (and reruns of their TV show). By 1995 I was a solid Weezer fan which, according to Rivers himself, is basically the same aesthetic as many 60's rock bands. To hear them both represented, in some way, in a single song? That's pretty damn awesome. Love this song already.
@garyhill27403 жыл бұрын
I am glad to hear someone else had a similar journey. I grew up with the music of the '60's and '70's. In the '80's I basked in the retro thing going on. After a long journey through the classics I began to appreciate some newer artists. Always with a bias, whether pop or hard rock or metal, for bands that centered around guitar bass and drums without overproducing. I have never lost my love of bands like the Monkees and Chocolate Watchband. Groups that are "protopunk" in the '60's to early '70's sense. Not the screaming moronic "punk" of the late '70's and '80's, which I consider something else entirely.......but that's another story. These bands influenced the early punk that more or less evolved into what became known as "new wave".

Excellent song and good work from Mike, Micky and Peter. The new songs from the band and others are very good, and the video for this one reminds me of Alan Parsons' "Don't Answer Me", but much brighter. There's even a Davy Jones outtake from '67 or '68, so all the band is there in some form. Wasn't sure about getting the CD, but this one works, either in '66 or '16. And I was around for both; this getting old is getting old.

I had just graduated highschool and looking around was the only one of my age I could see. 😄 But I adore The Monkees and met some other wonderful fans. The best part was later on at my hotel, I realized I left my sunglasses at the pool by the lobby. I threw a towel around me and slipped out past midnight to find them. On my way back up the elevator, guess who walked in with me but Micky Dolenz himself?! 😂 I almost lost my mind! Of course later on I could think of a million other intelligent things I could have said, but at least it was great to express my appreciation and gratitude in person.
