Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

2023 and I still love this album. At first I was apprehensive that the next release after Good Times was a Christmas record, especially given it was very likely going to be the last album they would do. It did turn out to be the last Monkees album, and it is superb. One of my favorites, and a worthy addition to the Monkees canon. They had never done a Christmas album, and it turned out to be a great idea. Monkees music and cheer we can enjoy ever year around this time. (Frankly, I even listen to it in July!) Thanks Monkees (and friends)! R.I.P. Davy, Peter, and Mike. We miss you!

Wonderful song. Hearing Micky sound this great in 2018 nearly brings tears to my eyes. My gf thought he sounded like he was 25! Plus, the hook and subtly shifting chords in the chorus are truly beautiful.

The chorus of the song sounds a bit like She Makes Me Laugh, especially the What Would Santa Do. Good song. Still waiting for the album. Ordered it in Mid October and still not here. Hope it comes before Christmas. Canada Post is terrible and maybe US customs holding it up. If it comes after Christmas I will have to wait a year to listen to it for only play Christmas music in December. Disappointed cannot enjoy it.

Also, I might receive heat for this, but Rhino using a sheet of Monkees wrapping paper as a way to entice fans to buy music/merchandise echoes P. T. Barnum’s alleged sentiment.
