The beginning of naruto, the story was about A demon fox that appears when there is a lot of hatred animosity amongst the land that got sealed into a boy by the fourth hokage... then shukaku showed up in the chuunin exams and even at that point the concept of "tailed" beasts was not introduced until the 2 tails showed up in shippuden.

My personal theory with the one and two Tailed Beasts is that they are also natural sages, which allows their bodies to be made of elemental matter instead of 'flesh' like the others. The element itself seems to be related to their elemental release. Shukaku got it's arm cut off by Gamabunta during the Chunin Exam War and regenerated it, but Gyuuki got his horn cut off by the 3rd Raikage decades ago and it's still gone. It likely also helps their overall power level compared to the Beasts with more tails.

Well... Iron cam rust. And I recall the sand Gaara uses is very heavy. And it gets heavier if you throw water at. Sand gets harder and heavier when water is mixed into it. So maybe you could somehow overcome or counter it by combing water and fire together? (Look up what happens when you burn metal/iron then throw water onto it.)

No, the 9 tailed beast is the result of hagaromos using creation of all things jutsu to split the 10 tails into 10 parts then giving 9of those things a ego or a personality; the 9 tailed breast and the husk of the 10 tails or the getto statue are those 10 parts. Although hagaromo didn't split them equally with kurama having at least half of the 10 tails chakra and gyuki having like 30% to 40% with the rest going to the Getto statue and the rest of the tailed beasts. But it could more complicated.
