IDK about that... A mass-produced stainless steel JOWO nib is around $15-$20, and a titanium Bock nib is around $80. There's no earthly way a custom titanium and ultum nib unit designed and made in small batches by a small US manufacturer could ever cost $50. Not even a mass manufacturer like Bock can make a titanium nib for less than $80. $50 would be nice but entirely unsustainable. The market for this product is incredibly niche, and the materials and machining is expensive. I'm hoping when volume picks up and manufacturing becomes less expensive, they can hit around $150, which is, I think, a more realistic price point goal. $400 is IMO insane, but $50 is entirely unrealistic.

Just got my Monoc in one of Schon's beautiful full-size pens. What a great writer! Juicy and confident. The nib feels grounded on the paper without being scratchy at all -- which suits me perfectly, as I have a slight hand tremor that makes writing with highly polished nibs wobbly. Reversed, the nib writes perfectly as a fine nib. Even reversed, this great ultem feed keeps ample ink flowing. Thanks, Ian & S-DSGN team!

I am one of the old guys. This nib reminds me of the marvelous nibs made by the original Sheaffer Pen Company. I was very fond of those nibs and I have several. Those Sheaffer nibs had iridium tips, so your design is unique in its unified concept. I want one, but I shall have to save for it.

This is quite unique & new. The machining is very robust & 'German philosophy functional'. Very interesting. By just the looks of it, I believe these nibs will be quite stiff. They seem to be ideal for fast note taking rather than be for leisure writing.

This is complicated to answer but I’ll try. It’s a great nib, smooth with a touch of feedback. Very stiff. I really enjoy it but some might not. All down to preference. No right or wrong here. Gold nibs can be garbage or amazing. The material alone does not dictate quality or smoothness. Hope that helps!

I may not have much to say, but this is a really cool idea! My only question because it's fully integrated... how do you do a deep clean of the feed if it gets blocked up by particles or ink gets extra dried up in it? I might've missed seeing how that works. 😅

great question. we will have more on this soon. we include a cleaning tool (modified syringe) which does a great job at cleaning the nib and feed and if it gets really clogged it can be taken apart, but we do not encourage tackling that at home as the feed is very delicate outside of the nib. With proper instructions and tools a nibsmith can be trained by myself or my team in how to do a repair/deep cleaning if we cannot do it in house (which we would prefer). Inside our pen caps we have a o-ring seal so the nib does not 'dry out' as often which helps keep cleaning manageable when the pen is left inked for a long period of time.

Great question. Wear depends on a lot of factors. The user's writing style, paper types, what inks they are using, how much use etc. The hardness of the alloy of Titanium we are using is quite hard so we feel it will meet the demands of a modern fountain pen customer. The strength of steel but much lighter. My question would be why? Did they answer a question no one was asking? Generally people like the heft and weight of a fountain and not looking to shed weight. And with the lightness of the titanium material, hopefully they took that into account when finetuning it, or it likely may be hard to write with.

@@Schon_DSGN Good idea. But sometimes there are stubborn residues on the back of the nib, where it is touching the grooves, especially if you use ink with particles. Maybe in future iterations you can consider allowing us to remove the feed :D

It is not recommended, and most manufactures will void that warranty over this issue so i am comfortable saying that it is not removable unless by us or a trained nibsmith. Hi Ian, I was wondering How do you clean it ... I mean Does the feed come out for easy cleaning or is it stuck in place ... I'm a person who loves to take their pens apart and clean them and repair them if need be and I also love to use shimmering and sheening and shading inks but I dont want them to mix if you know what I mean :) Thanks

Thanks for the question! We do not recommend removing the feed from the nib, so we include a cleaning tool which is a modified syringe that enables the nib to be flushed effectively after use. We do not recommend shimmering inks in the nib unfortunately as they can create clogs and poor performance overtime.

I’m not saying it’s going to perform better since that’s up to taste and how you write (angle, LH vs RH, force, style etc) If you like flex this isn’t for you, but if you want a very smooth stiff nib, It’s amazing. In my opinion it performs great but i made it to my taste so that’s complicated!
