Cheers folks, hope you had a nice Christmas! We taped this at the end of 3 recordings so if we're a bit...done. That's why! ;)

What time was it with you whilst all this was going on? I Either too early or too late. A rhetorical question but thanks for all the inconvenience that you must endure Davy, it’s not unnoticed here.

Honestly, I can't wait to see more Den in 2024. I would love more non Genre vids too. I know not all the crew here would care for that but a monthly show on non-horror with Jamie, Davey and maybe someone else on SOT who loves film just not horror (Luis?) would be great.

Extra time in the Den? Excellent. Thanks, guys for taping three shows in one sitting for all of us to enjoy. And for bringing up some movies that still need to be watched.

If, like me, you were intrigued by Davy's description of LOLA, then Amazon currently has it available to rent for 99p - at least today (30/12) and in the UK. Don't know that I would put it in a top three list but my wife and I watched the Dial of Destiny on Disney+ the other day and it was an enjoyable romp.

For the record, it's not in my actual top three. But it is in my top three movies that got little-to-no mention this year on the Monster's Den.

I didn't see too many movies this year. My three favorites are Megan, Exorcist: Believer, and Thanksgiving. Yes, I did like Exorcist. I watched Megan on Peacock. It was the unrated version. I love Thanksgiving. Reminds me of an old-school Slasher. If someone would have told me that it was an '80s movie, I would have believed you. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year

Great show! I'd love to know what you guys would think of Poor Things
@markfurru336810 ай бұрын
Sorry, Jamie, but Oppenheimer is my favorite film of the year. I saw it three times on the big screen! As far as the films on par with the discussion on this show, my favorite - and my third favorite movie of the year overall - was Beau Is Afraid. That's the latest from Ari Aster, the director of Hereditary and Midsommar, inspired by his own childhood nightmares. Probably his most beautifully fucked up film yet! And my number five overall this year was Godzilla Minus One. Godzilla in his scariest incarnation yet, and this one actually made us care about the human characters for once. Can't believe how amazing this was on such a modest budget. Another one I need to mention is Poor Things, the latest from Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. The former plays a woman who killed herself by jumping off of the London Bridge into the Thames, and has sort of been resurrected with the brain of her unborn child. Willem Dafoe plays the mad scientist who retrieved her corpse, implanted her unborn child's brain into her head, and now raises her as his creation. She meets Mark Ruffalo and some other men along the way. It's basically Frankenstein meets porn. Great stuff! Of course, I also loved Evil Dead Rise, Thanksgiving, M3GAN, Talk to Me, Cocaine Bear, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, et al.

Godzilla Minus One would be my top genre film of the year as well. So outstanding a film that personally I didn't need the little button the filmmakers put on the end of it.

Loved Dial of Destiny. An old school type adventure (probably) appreciated most by Gen X-ers.

Yeah, I did too. Below Raiders and Temple, but on the same level as Last Crusade and easily better than Crystal Skull.

Movies I liked this year. Infinity Pool When Evil Lurks Cobweb The Blackening Evil Dead Rise Talk to Me Disappointed movies Insidious Red Door Expendables 4 (especially the stupid pointless twist ending) Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning - it was ok but a huge step down from the previous M:I movies. The bike stunt scene was ok, but the train going over the rails wasn't that exciting, because you could clearly see that it was all CGI. Also the person who saves the goodies, you end up rolling your eyes, as it was a case of the writers wrote themselves into a corner and they came up with a bullshit way of getting the heroes out of a difficult situation. Favourite release on physical media The Wicker Man 50th Anniversary box set - Just wow! Bruce Lee box set (phenomenal) Scream & Scream Again - A brilliant release from Radiance, extras are brilliant.

Great fakeout from Craig, he really got Davy and Chris going for a bit there. I can forgive him picking When Evil Lurks, 'cause I thought that one blew really hard. Maybe it's got some extra charm as a "foreign" film but as a fellow Argentinian I just couldn't get past the poor acting and horrible writing all around. I promise we're not all that fucking stupid down here.

Where is this Godzilla movie available? I've never heard of it and can't find any info on it. Please don't tell me it's on some pay for streaming channel nonsense.
@DavysFlicks10 ай бұрын
Still in cinemas. No news on disc yet but it's Toho direct in the US and they don't licence often so a 4K or blu is up in the air for now. It's Anime UK in, well, the UK so a European disc at least seems more likely.
