"The stadium was given to the Montreal Expos. Arguably one of the best baseball teams of all time." Sorry, I don't think so, HAHA.

I'm came here to say the same thing....lmao. wow that was a very bold statement 🤣. As a die hard Blue Jays fan 2 world series and a handful of division titles and penants I wouldn't even say the Jay's are one the best of all-time.

74-40 at the time of the 1994 strike. Will Cordero, Moises Alou, Marquis Grissolm, Larry Walker, Lenny Webster, Ken Hill, John Wettland, and a certain Pedro Martinez. Manager Felipe Alou. A virtual NL all-star team of the 1990s on that one single Expos team. They'd have played either the Yankees, Indians, or White Sox in the 1994 World Series had it not been for the strike. As a lifelong Indians fan, and someone who always loves the underdog, I was REALLY hoping for an Indians/Expos World Series.

Part of the reason the cost of the buildings skyrocketed was the trade strikes that had little to do with "new...methods" but more to do with greed.

Great video. The IOC owes Quebec a rather large debt of gratitude, considering this venue almost bankrupted the providence. They SHOULD suggest that these magnificent facilities be used for the 2014 Olympics if the citizens of Quebec allow it. The infrastructure is there. It just needs to be refurbished. Then the 1B they spent hosting in '76 can be recuperated. This is the first Olympic games I remember seeing on t.v. and they were great, but being young, I didn't realise the financial burden that was imposed on Quebec. Great project. What grade did you get?

That’s a fallacy. Paying $1billion off over 30 years and having a guaranteed source of revenue to pay it (a tax on tobacco) just means they managed a debt like anyone with a home loan pays off their mortgage. And Montreal has had great public facilities (among many others) that are used by the public regularly to this day.

I was there in ‘76 and it did indeed look spectacular although I was very much on the young side. The Montrealers nicknamed it the “Big O” with the “O” representing the immensity and pomp of the Olympic games. Unfortunately, once the truth of the financial disaster this has project become apparent (And It wasn’t yet completed!) , the nickname was kept but with a small alteration: the “Big O” was to become the “Big Owe” as the citizens were well aware that they would soon feel the bite of an inexorable and significant rise in taxes which was to take a very long time to pay. I knew a dump truck owner who would go through one of the construction gates, get checked off by a clerk for the load he was hauling to get paid, leave with load still intact out another gate and return with the same load to yet another gate to have his load once again ticked off. The construction site was to large and disorganized that this kind of behaviour was rampant and even the management was rife with corruption...

I often wonder if Quebec architects were involved, someone surely would have incorporated Quebec's harsh climate into construction, including the roof, the tower, location, etc. I was 7 in 1976, so the Olympic games meant something different.

Wow, not the most beautiful building ever, even a bit into the hideous side, but at least now I appreciate it more. Nice video, great explanation and awesome visuals.

12:05 wait what? The entire building is made of reinforced concrete, top of the tower was finish with a steel structure. Also, great video! Also, so sad we let SNC Lavalin touch and destroy this project. One day i'll fix the roof and we will have what we should have had, a light removable roof.

Visited this place, has a very unique and modern design. Didnt know this almost bankrupted the city, was somewhat over-done for the olympics in terms of cost, the roof has issues but I gotta say the stadium looks modern and recently built. Also didnt know it has a Guinness world record for tallest slanted tower, and that there is an outside elevator going from the back of the tower, also didnt know there was an observatory.

There was no "committee" that selected Taillibert, he was signed by Dreapau in secret. Quebec architects and politicians were outraged and as the monstrosity that the stadium turned out to be - they were right!

Why did they built that stadium if what was going too be to costly and time consuming and if it was going to have structural issues later on, especially the roof which was a big flop!. It was meant for the '76 Summer Olympics only. The stadium was too big for baseball. Montreal should have built a baseball only stadium for the Expos, but they didn't have the money because it was for the Olympic Stadium. Now I can see why Montreal lost their team because the ballpark issue fell through. And why Montreal lost a lot of money when they hosted the games, They'll never host them again!!
