@danrooc they have a website, monuments man, I started to read the book few days ago so i checked it out, in the category "Join the hunt" you have two subcategories of the art that's still missing, and the one that shows what was found in the years after the war, some were found in 2022 I believe, but for everything thats missing you have a description of what they think or where the leads point to, and yes lots of paintings were stolen by US soldiers, feel free to check the website

A movie which is worth watching. In addition, it makes my point that good films need a good cast, a good director, a good story, and someone who will put a hand deep in the pocket. There have been low-budget productions which made wonderful movies in the past, e.g., the Straight Story, but quality generally (also) depends (and always will) on budget size.
@robertbeveridge16913 ай бұрын
no budget size is far from a guarantee of quality thunk heavens gate and most franchise movies of today
@Kimdino13 ай бұрын
I tend to disagree. It has been well understood, that most of the people of the USA, and a great many others led by 'Hollywood'ism, equate quality with size & lavishness. These people usually are ignorant of 'the message', let alone any value in it. So what you say is largely true. However, many of us see otherwise. 'The message' is all, and any piece of art that has nothing particular to say is totally worthless the archetypal 'Shaggy Dog Story'. A large budget requires the backing of a large studio. But large studios don't like films that require the viewers to use brain cells, as most viewers shy away from the effort required. They would rather do meaningless waffle that they KNOW will sell well.. Also, great 'message, quality can get lost behind Hollywood style 'quality. So most 'quality' films are made without deep pockets. That's my opinion anyway. But this film scores well on both counts. Clooney had the budget, but knows to not let glitz hide the story. A great story and It was well made.

Rose Valland is poorly depicted in this movie as the fiction character of Claire Simon/Cate Blanchett. While the Nazi plundering was being carried out, Rose Valland, art curator, began secretly recording as much as possible of the more than 20,000 pieces of art brought to the Jeu de Paume Museum. Valland kept secret from the Nazi the fact that she understood German. The Nazi never discovered she was actually an art historian and that she could understand German, they banned all the male historian from the Jeu de Paume, but somehow underestimated her. Working with the French Resistance, she saved thousands of works of art. Rose took action in first person (see the movie The Train), she never went to prison for collaborating with the Nazi (as shown in the movie) on the contrary she risked her life daily passing information to the Resistance. She is one of the most decorated women in French history, pity this does not show up in the movie

So rare. if see anywhere, but side-lines....name Rosa Valland::::"Rose Antonia Maria Valland (1 November 1898 - 18 September 1980) was a French art historian, member of the French Resistance, captain in the French military, and one of the most decorated women in French history. It almost felt like John Goodman and Bill Murray had popped onto the film set one day and Clooney said to them "Hey, while you're here, do you fancy a part?"
