You do not show later on in your video how you patched your keyboard controller? This is a terrific video and a good primer for understanding signal flow. Thanks so much for the great upload. Cheers

It sounds fantastic!! Thanks for the sharing. Reminds me of the early tangerine dream work. There is definitely an “original tone”.

Dr Robert A Moog, and Herb Deutsch actually collaborated on the invention of the Moog Modular Synthesizer back in the early 60's.

Is this the newer re-issue with the better tuning ? My 901 doesnt even track in tune for one octave.

I have my model 10 on order. Looking like I will see it sometime in the fall. You mentioned talking about how you connect the CV and trigger but I didn't see that in your video. I'll be looking to connect my Voyager / Voyager OS as the controller. Can you give me some hints on how this can be done? Thanks!

Same here, I don't get great gate working with beatstep pro/korg sq-1 ... (even setting gate to negative on sq-1 and set gate as strig on the beatstep pro).

Nice video.. Were you using active circuit cables to trigger the 911s or does the Matriarch have S-Trig outs meaning you can use standard 1/8 inch to Cinch Jones cables?
@gearjunkies3 жыл бұрын
The Matriarch does not have s-triggers. In this demo we used a Kenton Pro 2, which has 2 s-trigger outputs. So no active cables were needed. The Matriarch midi out gets into the Kenton which converts the note on messages into s triggers.

Hey Stefan - great explanation and review. I can't help but think that there is an obfuscation about 'vintage' gear by certain manufacturers. For example, why on earth retain the S-Trigger in any modern synth system (yes, Mr B, you, too), and why the separate Osc Controller? They simply don't make sense in a modern context. If you want THAT much vintage, go to a synth museum :-) Love the 5U space, but it's woefully under-powered and specified. Not even a 960 sequencer. Who's going to buy this? Someone who is buried in the past and is happy to exchange money for nostalgia, and maybe musos who know nothing about modular but want to spend the money to say they have an authentic Moog. I dunno. Korg is playing the same game. How much better to simply update your products and bring them into the 21st century at prices all musicians can afford. Sorry if this seems ranty - there's a lot of this about :-)

While I agree that the S-trigger should have been updated (and why update the S-trig if other things from the original weren't included like the accessory plug), the 901/921 Oscillators are better suited for LFOs. With a synthesizer like this it is about tone, not necessarily the features.
@johnstaf2 жыл бұрын
Why do you assume people who want this synth know nothing about modular? Some people use S-Trig to connect with their vintage Moog synths. Besides, it's trivial to convert modern V-Trig to S-Trig. People who DO know about modular do this all the time. I don't think the oscillator controllers make any more or less sense in a modern setup than they did 50 years ago. If you wan't a cheaper Moog alternative, the Grandmother is the closest, except it doesn't have two ADSRs. The Matriarch does, but with more stuff. Why should it be made cheaply? There are countless cheaper alternatives.
@IanWaugh2 жыл бұрын
@@johnstaf That's not what I actually said. S-Trig is an acronusm. If you need it to connect to vintage stuff you can get converters but it doesn't make sense to 'carry it over' to a modern instrument. Just my opinion, of course 😊

The Cinch-Jones connector doesn't make the modern iteration of the Moog modulars "special" it is a pain in the ass.

I'd rather have that Moog Matriarch (that's in front of the Model 10) for a 1/5th of the price and is a seriously more versatile instrument. Oh, wait...I DO own a Moog Matriarch!!
